EVENT TABLE :

7/23/2010 1 EVENT TABLE PRESENTED By Rashmi Pande & R.V.Yemul

EVENT :

7/23/2010 2 EVENT An occurrence at a specific time and place, that can be described and is worth remembering. It is used in system analysis and designing

Slide 3:

7/23/2010 3 At a time of any transactions you direct your attention to the external environment and look at the system as black box. One who will actually use system, can readily describe system needs in terms of event that affect their work. So the external focus on events is appropriate when working with users. FINALY, focusing on events will give you a way to divide(decompose) the system requirement so you can study separately.

NEED :

7/23/2010 4 NEED Complex system needs to be broken into manageable units to be understood, and decomposing the system based on events.

Events Affecting a Credit card Processing System :

7/23/2010 5 Events Affecting a Credit card Processing System

Events Deferred Until the Design Phase :

7/23/2010 6 Events Deferred Until the Design Phase

Types of Events :

7/23/2010 7 Types of Events External Outside system Initiated by external agent or actor Temporal Occurs as result of reaching a point in time Based on system deadlines State Something inside system triggers processing need

EVENT TABLE :

7/23/2010 8 EVENT TABLE A table that lists events in tabular format that is in rows and key pieces of information about each event in columns

DESIGNING OF TABLE :

7/23/2010 9 DESIGNING OF TABLE While developing the list of events, the analyst should note additional information about each event for later use This information is entered in an event table An event table comprises of rows and columns Each row in the event table records information about one event And each column about its key piece of information about that event

Event table should consist of following attributes in 1st row. :

7/23/2010 10 Event table should consist of following attributes in 1st row. Event Trigger Source Activity Response destination

Every Time See At Running Dog :

FORMAT :

7/23/2010 12 FORMAT

Trigger :

7/23/2010 13 Trigger An occurrence that tells the system that has occurred, either the arrival of data needing or of a point in time

SOURCE :

7/23/2010 14 SOURCE An external agent or actor that supplies data to the system.

ACTIVITY :

7/23/2010 15 ACTIVITY Behavior that the system performs when an event occurs

RESPONSE :

7/23/2010 16 RESPONSE An output produced by the system, that goes to a destination.

DESTINATION :

7/23/2010 17 DESTINATION An external agent or actor that receives data from the system
