City of San José San José is one of North America's top 10 cities for international business. San José is the nation's safest metropolitan area. On average, it is sunny in San José more than 300 days each year! San José is the third largest city in California, with approximately 1 million residents. San Jose State University (SJSU) San José State University is California’s oldest public university. SJSU opened in 1857 as a normal school that trained teachers. Since then, SJSU has matured into a metropolitan university offering more than 134 bachelor's and master's degrees.
