Getting There : 

Getting There Departure: As you know we will be departing from the regular entrance to The Christian Fellowship Church at around 10AM on July 4, 2010. Be at the church by 9:30AM Bring: your scout in Class A’s (belt-up) his stuff for the week a packed lunch and drink for the trip $5-7 in an envelope with the scouts name written on it for lunch on the return trip John Riordon will be collecting the lunch envelopes swim suit easily accessible

Packing : 

Packing All the scout’s stuff should be in a duffle or a footlocker. They will have to carry everything from the car to the campsite so making it as schlep-able as possible will help save on return trips to the parking lot. Remember to make the swim shorts and road lunch easily accessible.

What Scouts should bring… : 

What Scouts should bring… Class A Uniform Shirt – to be worn while traveling to & from camp and to dinner each night. (Bring Troop Neckerchief & Slide-only to be used if requested by camp staff) Class B Shirts, at least 4 – 5 (or more) Hiking boots/shoes (don’t forget to waterproof them) Tennis shoes (for backup footwear) Water shoes (no flip flops please) Extra underwear (yes, you have to change them!) Socks (these too!) Shorts/Jeans Swimsuit (2 if you have two) Rain gear (it will rain) Hat Rope for clothes line Mosquito netting and installation rope/line (optional) Laundry or plastic bag for dirty clothes Compass (for new Scouts) Scout Handbook Plastic coat hanger (to hang up your Class A; yes you will hang it up) Pajamas/sleeping clothes Sweatshirt or light jacket Sleeping bag Sheet and blanket Pillow Toothbrush and toothpaste (PLEASE use them) Deodorant (PLEASE use often and then again after that) Soap in a container (yes, you will be showering and checking for ticks!) Shampoo Medicated powder (Shower & Powder is the rule!! A little powder in the shoes is good for all of us too) Comb, brush (or you could just go to the barber now and not need a comb) Towels (one for bathing and one for swimming) Washcloth WATER BOTTLE OR HYDRATION SYSTEM (kept filled with water and with you at all times) Flashlight/headlamp (and maybe a spare) Spare batteries Personal First Aid kit Fishing Rod and Gear (optional) Pocket knife – no sheath knives (optional, only if Scout already has earned Tot’n Chip) Camera (optional, consider disposable ones) Card games/chess set/checkers Matches (optional, only if Scout already has earned Firem’n Chit) Envelopes/post cards, and stamps (for letters home “I’m having fun, but forgot my___[fill-in-blank]“) Watch,  you know, used to tell time (Scouts need to know when he should be in class or eating, or both) PENCILS, PEN, NOTEBOOK Merit Badge books, if you have them (usually can be bought at camp store along with other needed items i.e.leatherwork items, woodcarving projects, etc.) Completed MB pre-requisite work, if necessary Daypack (for carrying MB books, notebook, pen/pencil and other items around all day) Camp chair (if you don’t bring one, do not plan on using someone else’s!) Spending money (for MB items, general store, souvenirs, snacks – the interest rate at the SM bank is pretty high this time of the year) Bug repellent (non-aerosol preferred) SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN! (it will be sunny) For Swimming and Lifesaving merit badges: long sleeve shirt with buttons, long pants & belt (First Year’s in the Brownsea program will be working on the swimming merit badge!) OA sash (if OA member) Mess Kit – Plate, utensils, Cup, we will be eating one dinner prepared in camp. Prescription Medications! (See Medications section)

What the Adults should bring : 

What the Adults should bring Most of what the scouts bring… PLUS Camp Chair (with drink holder optional) Duct tape (its good for just about anything!) Cell phone & charger – If you have AT&T you might consider buying a Verizon prepaid phone. AT&T had no signal at Goshen last year but Verizon did… Sunglasses Coffee mug – Coffee will be delivered to the camp site every morning! Snacks Reading material (you will have time to kill…)

What the Troop should bring : 

What the Troop should bring Propane tank Coleman Light fixtures Troop Flags Troop Camp Sign (scout made, preferably) Axe Rope (for an axe yard) Troop First Aid Kit

Medications : 

Medications Camps are usually pretty particular about meds in camp Henson allows each troop to keep a locked medication box under the control of one of the adults If your scout requires prescription meds during camp, provide those meds on day of departure to Jim Salacain Put all meds in a ziplock bag with the scout’s name clearly marked on it Put only enough meds for the duration of the camp so that if they get misplaced during the trip home, you have the remainder Meds need to be in a pharmacy supplied container with the scouts name and dosage on the label Meds will be administered each morning before breakfast (unless directed otherwise) Any remaining doses will be returned with the scout at the end of camp

Getting back : 

Getting back We will depart camp on Saturday 10 July before 10AM (at least we will try…) We will drive to the CFC (same place we left from) We will send a troop e-mail about 1 hour before we think we will arrive (When we get to the VA side of the bay bridge)

Keeping you up to date… We will be sending blog updates (with pictures) to the troop web site all week Troop761.org If you subscribe, you will get a notification whenever there is new content I hope to have each of the scouts provide one of the updates (reviewed by me, of course, before I submit it to the site) so it should be fun!
