Print out this KWL chart. Fill in the “K” and the “W” sections of this KWL chart with what you know about surviving in the wild, and what you would like to know about surviving in the wild. Make sure that the “W” section of your chart is in question form. Leave the “L” column blank for now. How much do you know about the Pacific Coast? Build upon what you know, and learn something new as you explore the Pacific West Region. When you are done reading the facts, take the quiz to see how much you know! Begin to study the vocabulary you will need to know for this story. Use these flash cards to help you. While You Read The Book : While You Read The Book While you are reading the book, keep an eye out for the vocabulary that you saw on your flashcards. Print off this four column chart. Write the word “word” at the top of the first column. Write the word “synonym” at the top of the second column. Write the word “antonym” at the top of the third column, and write the word “sentence” at the top of the last column. When you come to a vocabulary word, write it in the first column. Then write a synonym and an antonym for the word in the second and third columns. Use Last, write the word in a sentence on the last column. Use an online dictionary to help you. After You Read : After You Read Create an acrostic poem about the setting of this book, a character from the book, or the theme of the book. When you are finished print off your poem. Create a graphic map for each chapter of the book. For each chapter you need to write a two sentence summary about the chapter. Then you need to choose a picture that represents something in the chapter. When you are completed print off your graphic map.
