Slide 2:

Global warming is likely to increase these problems by increasing the frequency of both floods and droughts and changing the seasonal pattern of runoff from snowpacks and glaciers. In addition, salt water incursion into low lying coastal areas and river deltas will restrict agriculture, reduce availability of fresh water, and endanger fresh water wildlife.

Top Ten Things to Know About Global WarmingAND TO SAVE EARTH Top Ten Things to Know About Global WarmingAND TO SAVE EARTH

Number ONE :

Number ONE 1.Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Do your part to reduce waste by choosing reusable products instead of disposables. Buying products with minimal packaging (including the economy size when that makes sense for you) will help to reduce waste. And whenever you can, recycle paper, plastic, newspaper, glass and aluminum cans. If thereisn' a recycling program at your workplace, school, or in your community, ask about starting one. Byrecycling half of your household waste, you can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

Number TWO :

Number TWO 2. Use Less Air Conditioning Adding insulation to your walls and attic, and installing weather stripping or caulking around doors and windows can lower your heating costs more than 25 percent, by reducing the amount of energy you need to heat and cool your home.

Number THREE :

Number THREE 3. Change a Light Bulb Wherever practical, replace regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. Replacing just one 60-watt incandescent light bulb with a CFL will save you $30 over the life of the bulb. CFLs also last 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs, use two-thirds less energy, and give off 70 percent less heat. If every U.S. family replaced one regular light bulb with a CFL, it would eliminate 90 billion pounds of greenhouse gases, the same as taking 7.5 million cars off the road

Number FOUR :

Number FOUR 4. drive less and save fuel Less driving means fewer emissions. Besides saving gasoline, walking and biking are great forms of exercise. Explore your community mass transit system, and check out options for carpooling to work or school. When you do drive, make sure your car is running efficiently. For example, keeping your tires properly inflated can improve your gas mileage by more than 3 percent. Every gallon of gas you save not only helps your budget, it also keeps 20 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.

Number FIVE :

Number FIVE 5. Buy Energy-Efficient Products When it's time to buy a new car, choose one that offers good gas mileage. Home appliances now come in a range of energy-efficient models, and compact florescent bulbs are designed to provide more natural-looking light while using far less energy than standard light bulbs. Avoid products that come with excess packaging, especially molded plastic and other packaging that can't be recycled. If you reduce your household garbage by 10 percent, you can save 1,200 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

Reuse the back of envelopes to write the grocery list. The envelope serves double-duty as a place to keep my coupons. 2. Subscribe to the weekend or Sunday only newspaper. Unless you're a total news hound, chances are you only read a few sections of the paper. GreenValley.com estimates that Americans destroy the equivalent of 30 million trees each year in newsprint. The same site also mentions that recycling the newspaper can potentially reduce the need for tropical lumber. 3. Go easy on the TP. I admit, I have a lot of trouble with this one. Although I can't quite bring myself to purchase 1-ply toilet paper, I do my best not to over estimate how much I'm going to need for a particular "event." As it was put so simply in a Seinfeld episode, "Spare a square.“ 4. Run printer paper through twice. I do this a lot, especially if I'm using my printer to print drafts of articles I write. I try to print front and back pages, or at least get 2-4 pages per sheet (if it's readable.) 5. Into scrap-booking or paper crafts? Resist the urge to buy hundreds of little pages of paper or card stock. I do what I call "cannibalizing" greeting cards. If something has a cute pattern or letting on it, I cut it off and add it to my collection. Save Tree NUMBER SIX

Number SEVEN :

Number SEVEN 7 switch off the switch after using Save electricity and reduce global warming by turning off lights when you leave a room, and using only as much light as you need. And remember to turn off your television, video player, stereo and computer when you're not using them. It's also a good idea to turn off the water when you're not using it. While brushing your teeth, shampooing the dog or washing your car, turn off the water until you actually need it for rinsing. You'll reduce your water bill and help to conserve a vital resource.

Number EIGHT :

Number EIGHT 9. Get a Report Card from Your Utility Company Many utility companies provide free home energy audits to help consumers identify areas in their homes that may not be energy efficient. In addition, many utility companies offer rebate programs to help pay for the cost of energy-efficient upgrades.

Slide 13:

5 ways to Save Water Indoors: . 1 Never pour water down the drain when there may be another use for it such as watering a plant or garden, or for cleaning. 2. Verify that your home is leak free. Many homes have hidden water leaks. Read your water meter before and after a two-hour period when no water is being used. If the meter does not read exactly the same, there is a leak. 3. Repair dripping faucets by replacing washers. If your faucet is dripping at a rate of one drop per second, you can expect to waste 2,700 gallons per year. This adds to the cost of water and sewer utilities, or can strain your septic system. 4. Check for toilet tank leaks by adding food coloring to the tank. If the toilet is leaking, color will appear in the toilet bowl within 30 minutes. Check the toilet for worn out, corroded or bent parts. Most replacement parts are inexpensive, readily available and easily installed5. If the toilet handle frequently sticks in the flush position letting water run constantly, replace or adjust it. 5 ways to Save Water Outdoors 1. Don't overwater your lawn. As a general rule, lawns only need watering every five to seven days in the summer and every 10 to 14 days in the winter. A hearty rain eliminates the need for watering for up to two weeks. Buy a rain gauge and use it to determine how much rain your yard has received. Most of the year, lawns only need one inch of water per week. 2. Plant it smart. Drought efficient landscaping is a great way to design, install and maintain both your plants and irrigation system. More importantly, it will save time, money and water. 3. Water lawns during the early morning hours when temperatures and wind speed are the lowest. This reduces losses from evaporation. 4. Don't allow sprinklers to water your street, driveway or sidewalk. Position them so water lands on the lawn and shrubs... not the paved areas. 5. Install irrigation devices that are the most water efficient for each use. Micro and drip irrigation and soaker hoses are examples of water efficient irrigation methods.

Number TEN :

Number TEN 10. Encourage Others to Conserve Share information about recycling and energy conservation with your friends, neighbors and co-workers, and take opportunities to encourage public officials to establish programs and policies that are good for the environment
