As my DAU sponsor in 1999, you made me feel welcome and thanks to your help, I immediately felt a part of the VS team. I've enjoyed working with you and I have found you to be one of the greatest technicians that I have had the pleasure knowing. Thinking back, I recall you to be very detail oriented and resourceful on whatever task you took on, but especially when you took the lead to upgrade Master Control. On more of a personal note, I really enjoyed and miss golfing with you. It seems we went at least every week and those were some fun times. I feel lucky if I get out a couple of times a year now. Robbo …and the Defense Acquisition University… …and the USS Ashland (LSD-48)… : …and the USS Ashland (LSD-48)… …and the USS Ashland (LSD-48)… : The Navy has done a disservice to Rob by not making him a Chief. His talents as an ICman (especially onboard an LSD) were unmatched! Please pass on to him that I wish him a happy (and normal) retirement and a great beginning to his second life. I served with Rob onboard USS ASHLAND for the better part of 2 years (maybe longer, I can't really remember). That was a very difficult duty station not only for me but for the entire crew. Without the talents of IC1 and the whole EM division, LSD 48 would not have made her way out of a pit of despair to a fine warship that was instrumental to the engagement of the Iraq war in March of 2003. IC1 Meade served his country proudly and deserves accolades from everyone and anyone he shall meet now and in the future. Enjoy your "new life" together. No more duty, no more underways, just be proud to be called Mr. Robert Meade, IC1, USN (Ret). Thank you for allowing me to share a bit of information about Rob. He is a true gentleman. Your Boy Bookman To the most annoying Cowboys fan I've ever met in my life - and all of them are annoying, but you take the cake. Honestly Rob, I used to hate to come to the IC shop on the Ashland because I dreaded hearing you, "Blah, blah, blah, Cowboys! Blah, blah, blah Cowboys!" It sucked. The only reason I used to bear it was I always needed you to come up to SITE-TV and fix something. Just joking man, ha! Congratulations on an HONORABLE 20 YEARS!!!! I wish you the best of luck in the future and keep being the standup guy you are...don't let civilian life change that. GOOD LUCK BUDDY!!!! Best wishes, Hendrick, RAIDERS 4 LIFE!!!!! …and the USS Ashland (LSD-48)… …and the USS Ashland (LSD-48)… : Rob aka IC1 – When you and I first met, I'm sure that you were very unsure of me as I was of you. Over the few years you and I worked together, you groomed me to be the best ICman I could be while in the Navy. The training and dedication you gave us to make sure we all learned our jobs and one another, made us one of the most notorious shops on board the Trashland. Your grooming also helped me take my E6 exam in 4 years. A move that was unheard of at that time. I want to thank you for that grooming and friendship you provided. The Navy is losing a good guy and a great leader. I wish you the best of luck in your adventures after the Navy. Thank you again for all you've done for me. It may not seem like much..but it meant more than you know. Good luck Rob..peace and blessings.Always, Patrick C. My SEA DADDY is retiring?!?! We miss you here on the IKE, man! Congrats and keep in touch! EM2(SW) Matthew Murraine …and the USS Eisenhower (CVN-69)… …and the USS Eisenhower (CVN-69)… : Congrats Rob on making it out alive! No matter how many new sailors made you want to commit a murder-suicide you stuck it out. I am speaking for myself but I am sure there are others like me that can attest to the fact that our lives have been enriched by your guidance, if nothing more than how to be quick witted when dealing with sarcasm! I hope you enjoy your freedom, your family and friends that you served to protect so many years! Don't be a stranger, you know there are a lot of Vacation spots for the retired in North Carolina. I think President Kennedy said it best: "I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think I can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: ‘I served in the United States Navy.’" - President John F. Kennedy Jeremy Stafford …and the USS Eisenhower (CVN-69)… …and the Defense Information School... : …and the Defense Information School... …and the Defense Information School... : What can I say about IC1 Meade that won’t be bad…I guess nothing. Just kidding. Meade is a hell of guy, really. I can’t share any crazy stories about being stuck on a ship or working many hours with him, because I never really knew him in that aspect. I have only known him in the extremely strange world of DINFOS and even then we didn’t work together. The only reason that I even know Meade is that we have a couple of things in common - a lack of care for what people think and a big mouth. We work in an office where 10 cubicles of space divide us, yet we somehow became what I guess people consider friends. When I was new to the area, he even invited me over to the house to watch a Dolphins game despite his somewhat weird following of the Cowboys. I think that despite our allegiances, we became pretty good friends. Despite not working alongside him, I have learned a lot. I still wish to master some of the skills that he displayed at DINFOS. Only a man so talented can look busy doing nothing at all work related. I’m not kidding this man was a master! Then there is his presence, or lack thereof. Another of his many talents that stood out to me. Somehow, someway he managed to be completely gone without anyone knowing. Gone for a long lunch (maybe a nooner), but yet would appear as if he was there the entire time. I tip my hat to you sir! In all sincerity Rob Meade is one of those “special” people that you get to meet once in a lifetime, his colorful language and quips will be missed. Congratulations on the retirement. GAUS …and the Defense Information School... …and the Defense Information School... : IC1 Meade – I wouldn’t trade the 4 months at Ft Meade with you guys for a 1st and 3rd round pick. Best of luck in your retirement! Obviously, the 1st and 3rd comment is in reference to that great trade Detroit made with Dallas for Roy Williams. Take care, Frankie Wow! 20 years in the Navy, you're 20x the man that I am. Although we both made it through DINFOS and may both continue to do so. The Navy has been good for you, you ended up with a beautiful family...a great home and made some good friends. I'm glad it all worked out for you. You should be proud of your accomplishment. Congratulations! No more taking leave over the weekend now when we go to Dallas! HBTC, Dan V. …and the Defense Information School... …and the Defense Information School... : Rob, - You chew like a horse... - Popeyes? Who said Popeyes? - "Stay in your Lane" - Thank you for the "lesson learned" speech when I asked what you would have done differently if you were me. - Overall, thank you for proving to me that there are people in the world who think they are never wrong!!! LMAO!!! I love you, Brotha!! Tony Tatum …and the Defense Information School... …and the Defense Information School... : I would like to extend my deepest thanks to you for being such a great mentor, friend and water cooler moderator. You are a true Sailor, believing the sea is where all Sailors belong. You once told me, “Just because you’re in the Navy doesn’t mean you’re a Sailor.” I have thought of this often and passed it on to others. So, it is in that spirit I send my congratulations from the South China Sea onboard USS Tortuga (LSD-46)! How ‘bout them Cowboys!!! Respectfully, Jason Fischer Redskin Rob has a nice ring to it! Congrats! Andy Sciascia …and the Defense Information School... …and the Defense Information School... : Cowboy Rob, It was great to know and work with you. Good luck with becoming a retired Cowboy. I heard you guys aren't very marketable outside the Gavy....I mean Navy. Thanks for your service. I'm proud to have served with you Shipmate! God Bless.Redskin Willie Hardy It's been an honor to call IC1 a colleague and a shipmate, and coming from a zoomie, that's saying a lot. He has been a good friend, co-worker and will, if I'm lucky, work together again sometime.Glenn Stewart …and the Defense Information School... …and the Defense Information School... : For ROBERTO: I wish you the best and congratulations. You have been and always will be a good friend and a mentor. The one quote from you that stuck with me and confirmed that I will never join the Navy is:“I can't put you in the Navy, but I can put the Navy in you!”P.S. (Don't worry I will pay for the soccer lessons.) Nor-Mon Portillo Rob, Congrats on your retirement and best of luck. As you put it before, I can do your job, but I can never replace you.V/RJessie Bell …and the Defense Information School... …and the Defense Information School... : Rob, While I cannot appreciate your choice in NFL teams, I can appreciate is your work ethic, your pride, and your blunt honesty. I have only worked with you for about a year, but in that time frame I have seen a true blue Sailor. You take care of your shipmates and all you ask for in return is to be called a friend, a mentor, a shipmate. While your sea counter may stop, please believe that you are always a Sailor. As one of my mentors once told me, "there is no point in it if you're not getting anything out of it." I hope the Navy has given you everything you need for you and your family to succeed. Fair winds and following seas. Steve Bansbach …and the Defense Information School... …and the Defense Information School... : Rob, No matter how much you talk about the Duke Blue Devils, the North Carolina Tarheels will always be # 1. As for that NFL team of yours, the Dallas Cowgirls....I've never seen a Cowgirl that could beat a Panther...The Carolina Panthers are the new America's team....Deal with it...Congrats on your retirement! Sydney Williams Congratulations, Rob! Enjoy the sweet life! Josh Holt Rob, Enjoy your military retirement, but get a job here so we can keep talking about college football’s national champions! Wes Ellenberg …and the Defense Information School... …and the Defense Information School... : Rob, If you ever need a translation from non-Navy to Navy, call me. I remember during a ceremony in the Hall of Heroes he had a perplexed look on his face because he didn't know what the heck was being said. It's not that he didn't hear the words; it's just that it wasn't Navy-speak. Since I've had some time to get used to the other services' acronyms and abbreviations, I found myself being his translator. Best of luck to you! Trish Huizinga If it weren’t for IC1 Meade, I wouldn’t know what a moose knuckle is! Hoyt …and the Defense Information School... …and the Defense Information School... : Please don't tell anyone this because it will truly ruin my reputation amongst my fellow Tar Heel fans, but I really have enjoyed getting to know Rob over the last few years and, as Duke fans go, I really like him. Now that's saying a lot. I can honestly say that there are only a handful of Duke fans that I can even mention their name, much less have a conversation with. Now you'd think things couldn't get worse but then I have to go and find out that Rob is a Dallas Cowboy fan too. Well, as hard as he's tried to make me not like him by his poor choice of sports teams, it's still hard for me not to. The truth is I've always enjoyed our conversations, whether it be about sports or anything else. Rob has always come across to me as someone with a great sense of humor and someone fun to be around. I also know that he's very proud of his service and has certainly left a positive mark on the Navy and for that I'm especially grateful. So Rob, enjoy your retirement. I wish you and your family nothing but the best and even though my mantra is, and always will be, "No Dookies!!", in your case I'll make an exception. Good luck buddy! MCC Jonathan Byrd …and the Defense Information School... …and the Defense Information School... : I would like to wish Rob the best of luck in his civilian endeavors. I know he'll do well where ever he may go. So as we say when we send a TRUE shipmate ashore - Fair Winds and Following Seas. God Bless! MCC Gregory Currie IC1 Meade – Fair winds and following seas in your next assignment in CIVLANT, may God continue to bless you and your family.IC1 Reginald MorrisRota, Spain ROB,Congratulations and best wishes to you and your family on all your future endeavors. How ‘bout dem COWBOYS!!SFC PICOTT"EAGLES FAN 4LIFE” …and the Defense Information School... …and the Defense Information School... : Rob has always been one of those people who could make me laugh, even if it was at myself. He is a truly funny guy, and I don't mean just the he looks -- which is funny -- but in a, "I hadn't thought about that" kind of way. He has that natural ability to assess any given situation and find the humor in it. It is a real gift that I'm sure everyone who has worked with Rob has enjoyed. If I were pressed to speculate on Rob's biggest flaw, I would have to mention his taste in football teams -- which can only be described as tragic. But as in most things if you look hard enough, there is a silver lining in Rob's misguided allegiance to the Dallas Cowboys, and that is that he can run REALLY fast. I suspect a speedy stride is a defense mechanism he developed to keep from getting his ass kicked, you know, like something Darwin might have written about. With that I wish you fair winds and following seas shipmate. Best, Chris Fowler …and the Defense Information School... …and places in between. : …and places in between. I want to thank you for being the kind of friend that never changes. As you transition from the Navy, I want to wish you and the family the best God has to offer. Take care and definitely keep in touch. Rob, I wish you the best and I believe that whatever you take on, you will be a success. God speed and enjoy the monthly check!Tom Zereski …and the Defense Acquisition University… …and the Defense Acquisition University… : Rob, I know that we did not always see eye-to-eye but thanks for being someone that I could always count on. Thank you for being one of the best IC-men I have had the privilege to work with. Best wishes in all future endeavors, my brother. And in closing, GO CUBBIES!!! God Bless.Redskin Willie Hardy It's been an honor to call IC1 a colleague and a shipmate, and coming from a zoomie, that's saying a lot.
