Career Description : 

Career Description Medical illustrators are professional artists who create illustrations for the health and medical fields. This means that they need an understanding of science as well as artistic ability. Their work can be seen in a wide variety of places, including medical journals, textbooks, exhibits, and learning programs. They can work with numerous types of media in both 2-D and 3-D. Their artwork can range from precise, realistic diagrams to basic illustrations. Medical illustrators may work freelance or as an employee of a pharmaceutical company or medical clinic.

Educational Requirements : 

Educational Requirements To become a medical illustrator requires a Master’s degree, with itself requires a Bachelor’s degree. One can also choose to request certification from the Association of Medical Illustrators. In addition, as the medical field is ever changing, Medical Illustrators must continue their education and training throughout their careers. The University of Toronto has the only accredited Medical Illustration program in Canada. The two-year Biomedical Communications program requirements include a four-year Bachelor’s Degree with a Science major as well as an artistic portfolio. Sixteen students are accepted into the program each year.

Program of Study In order to be considered for admission to any program at the University of Toronto, you must: be eligible to receive the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) ▪ present six appropriate Grade 12 U or M courses, including English ENG4U. The "out of school" component of Grade 12U/M co-op courses will not be accepted for admission purposes. present credits to satisfy any prerequisites of specific courses or programs in which you intend to enroll provide proof of English facility if required submit additional academic documents if you are required to do so (i.e. matriculation certificates from other educational jurisdictions, post secondary transcripts).
