The Cause and Effect of Teen Desperation :

The Cause and Effect of Teen Desperation Natalie Kapp March 29, 2010 Mrs. Turner Honors English Photo Essay

Slide 2:

A relatively empty wallet. This family is literally on their last dollar. In the economic struggle both parents have to work to stay on their feet.

Slide 3:

A key left in an open door. After school, kids go home, left alone, to do what they please, possibly without consequence.

Slide 4:

Going home is often the only option a teen has after school. This school is deserted, empty, and locked up. So they try to turn to other places to go.

Slide 5:

Another place a teen can turn to stay out of trouble, a library. But its another failed sanctuary, it’s closed, and when there’s no safe place to go, kids get into risky situations.

Slide 6:

A kid alone can go anywhere they please. They can do anything. They call for attention, possibly going to drastic measures.

Slide 7:

Vandalism is a huge sign of gangs. Gangs are one of the main places teens turn when desperate to have some place to go, not thinking about the possible consequences.

Slide 8:

A cup, left over from a party, no supervision. Being alone gives the child an idea that they can get away with anything.

Slide 9:

A tobacco store that very flamboyantly advertises their products, next to two very small signs concerning minors. It shows how much they really “care” about the risks of tobacco on minors.

Slide 10:

An empty beer can, lying in the street. If you look closely, you can see the small child’s toy lying next to it as well…
