To her parents, she was one in a million. Slide 3: On January 20, 2009, CJ became 1 in 13 million. That was the day she was diagnosed with a large, aggressive brain cancer. A primitive neuroectodermal tumor in the middle of her brain. Slide 4: During the next year, she fought the tumor and its effects with: 4 brain surgeries 3 rounds of inpatient chemo 8 weeks of proton radiation in Houston, Texas Physical Therapy Occupational Therapy More outpatient chemo with a variety of medications Countless hospitalizations and clinic visits Slide 5: All of her hair fell out. TWICE. She was still beautiful! Slide 6: When all medical options had been exhausted, the tumor slowly invaded her system once again. Our little caterpillar grew a cocoon around her. She prepared for the journey to come. Slide 7: On January 7, 2010, CJ lost her battle with cancer. She transformed into a beautiful butterfly and flew away. Slide 8: In an effort to capture the positive energy and support that surrounded her family during that stressful year, we have founded the CJ’s Thumbs Up Foundation (CJSTUF). Slide 9: Our mission is to provide financial assistance to families of children with chronic and life threatening illnesses. Slide 10: Beginning in June 2010, we will provide a number of monetary gifts to families on an annual basis. In the first year of the foundation, we will give away at least $10,000 to hospitalized children and their families at VCU Children’s Hospital. Slide 11: With your financial support, we can reach more families in more hospitals all over the country. Slide 12: Go to www.cjstuf.org or look for us on Find out how you can get involved with our growing Foundation.
