Even today, many of the traditional musical forms of Japan are performed during various religious and social gatherings. TRADITIONAL JAPANESE MUSIC There are two types in traditional Japanese music: art music and folk music. Art music has several different styles, each of which was established separately in different periods of Japanese history. The Japanese have maintained those time-honored styles, modifying them as time has passed. In general, vocal music plays a more important role than instrumental music in the history of Japanese music. Besides, traditional Japanese music often developed as a part of drama such as Noh, Kabukl, and Bunraku. Traditional music of Japan are divided into three category Instrumental Theatrical Court music Characteristics of traditional music of Japan : Characteristics of traditional music of Japan doesn't have regular chords one cannot beat time with one's hands because there is an interval ma the rhythms are based on ma; silence is important Japanese traditional music flows, in an attempt to reflect the feeling of nature tempo usually starts out very slow and gets faster, returns to being slow again, and has a drawn-out ending traditional Japanese music is influenced by Chinese music because some of the musical instruments used came from China There are several types of traditional, Japanese music. Biwagaku: A type of short lute, the biwa was a favored instrument of accompaniment for long chanted ballads about great battles and heroic deeds, and this music is called biwa-gaku. 3. Also used in Kabuki and Bunraku (theatrical) performances. Minyou: folk songs. Found throughout Japan, many min'you are work songs.
