En mi dormitoiro La casa: Capitulo 6 Vocabulario y Gramática Study Guide/Tutorial by Nidi Miller Comenzar

Slide 2:

Instructions: Before You Begin The Study Guide/Tutorial will help you learn the vocabulary for your test. Tony and Kiki will be your guides. There are a total of (6) sections and an online Practice Test that you will take at the end of the tutorial without the use of your notes. I will be checking your scores from the practice test. You will use the Study Guide/Tutorial Worksheet along with your Spanish class notebook to take notes and to jot down the vocabulary or grammar concepts that you do not understand. A the end of the Tutorial you will turn it the completed worksheet and your class notebook as well. When you start the tutorial make sure that you read the instructions carefully. Use your worksheet to write the definitions and your notebook to take notes and/or to write helpful comments or suggestions as you go through each section. After you finish writing your answers in the worksheet, click the smiley button to check your work. Mark the ones you get wrong for each section. Note: It’s a good idea to list any word(s) or concepts that you don’t understand, so you can study them later. When you have competed all six sections, and you are at the Are You Ready to Take the Test Slide. Click on the Sun icon that takes you to the grading table and figure out your grade for the tutorial. There is a formula that shows you how to do this, if you need it. Don’t forget to write it on a separate piece of paper to include it with your worksheet. After you have your grade, put all of your notes and worksheet away . Click on the link for the Practice Test . Make sure you write your practice test score on the worksheet as well. The results of this practice test will also give you an idea of areas that you need to study. Kiki Tony Comenzar Press on the Forward arrow to move ahead or the Back arrow to go back to the previous slide. The House icon will bring you back to this slide. The Smiley button is for the skills comparison. The Sun icon goes to the scores table. Back to Practice Test

La Casa:               En mi dormitorio ¡Hola! Me llamo Kiki. Este es mi dormitorio ¿Quieres practicar el vocabulario? Cognados Regresar Let's look at Cognates first.

Slide 4:

Cognados or Cognates Definition: In a technical sense, two words that have a common origin are cognates. Most often, cognates are words in two languages that have a common etymology and thus are similar or identical. For example, the English "kiosk" and the Spanish quiosco are cognates because they both come from the Turkish kosk. Cognates often have a similar meaning, but in some cases the meaning has changed over the centuries in one language or another. An example of such a change is the English word "arena," which usually refers to a sports facility, and the Spanish arena, which usually means "sand." They both come from the Latin harena, which originally meant "sand" and came in time to also refer to an area of a Roman amphitheater that was covered with sand. Spanish retained the meaning of "sand" (although the word can sometimes refer to a sports arena), but English expanded the word's meaning to include facilities something like the Roman amphitheater. These are called false cognates. Practicar el vocabulario
