By: Mehrdad Mansouri THE TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF DENTAL BLEACH : THE TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF DENTAL BLEACH Hydrogen Peroxide (2%-10%) Carbomide Peroxide (10%-35%) Both Products break down into Peroxide. Ex. 22% Carbomide is equal to 7.5% Hydrogen peroxide. STRUCTURE OF TEETH : STRUCTURE OF TEETH Enamel: Strongest part of tooth It is translucent (no color) Dentin: Very pores Not as dense as Enamel It gives your teeth its color. Pulp: Nerve of tooth Supplies nutrients HOW IT ALL WORKS : HOW IT ALL WORKS The Peroxide Opens small pores with in the Enamel. As it enters the Enamel it breaking down any external stain The Peroxide penetrates deep into the Enamel and even entering the Dentin. PROFECINAL VS. AT HOME WHITENING : PROFECINAL VS. AT HOME WHITENING First difference is the Concentration. Maximum strength for over the counter is 9% Carbominde peroxide. Minimum strength for professional is 10% Carbomide peroxide. Second difference is tooth sensitivity management. WHY DO MY TEETH GET SENSITIVE : WHY DO MY TEETH GET SENSITIVE The Enamel acts as a physical and thermal shield for the nerve. After whitening the enamel and dentin pores are open. This allows for the pulp to sense temperature changes much faster and stronger. This sudden change causes the discomfort that is felt. HOW TO AVOID SENSITIVITY : HOW TO AVOID SENSITIVITY Fluoride helps close the tubules opened by peroxide. Using Synsidine a week before and during the duration of bleaching period. If needed any Ibuprofen pill would help. HOW LONG AND HOW OFTEN : HOW LONG AND HOW OFTEN Must studies have shown that 85% of the whitening process is completed with in the first 30 min. One or Two times a day, each for 30-45 min If you are sensitive stop and continue at a less frequent rate.
