The incredible shrinking brain : The incredible shrinking brain As we progress in age our brain starts to shrink. “After age 60 the brain shrinks .5 to 1% per year.” To keep the brain active, throughout life we should read books of interest, play visual games, work puzzles, do whatever we can for mental stimulation. We should stay active and get plenty of exercise for physical stimulation. Do not smoke, as this causes the gray brain matter to shrink.
