1.How were Cordelia and Edgar similar? Both Cordelia and Edgar were faithful and forgiving to their fathers’ inspite of the wrong that there fathers’ had done to both of them. This was shown when Cordelia was deprived of her share in the kingdom by her father but when he needed help and she knew that he was sick and ill treated by Goneril and Regan she went to England with her French army to defend him and when she found him she brought doctors to treat him. On the other hand, when Gloucester believed Edmund’s lies that Edgar wanted to kill him and as a result he wronged Edgar and wanted to punish him but Edgar was a forgiving and a loving son and when Gloucester to take him to a cliff to throw himself off the cliff , he tricked him and took him to a flat land pretending that this was the cliff so when Gloucester fell he was unharmed so by this edgar saved him from killing himself.

Discuss. the first time Lear was surprised by Cordelia’s action at the beginning of the story when he asked her to express her love to him in words so that he could give her the best areas of his Kingdom and because he loved her the most, he expected that she would tell him the most loving words but he was shocked when she told him that she loved him according ti her duty no more and no less.
The second time he was surprised by her actions when he found her in Dover coming with her french army to defend and save him from his two daughters although she had the right to hate him for what he had done with her.

3.How was Lear’s condition when Cordelia’s soldiers found him? King Lear was found in the fields near Dover. He was fantastically dressed with wildflowers. His words were the words of a mad man. He didn’t recognize Gloucester. He spoke of the terrible conditions suffered by the citizens of the kingdom which he has once ruled. Because he had been outside in the storm and had lived like a poor man, he realized how cruelly and unfairly so many people were treated . When the attendance try to take hold oh him he ran away and they chased after him. His wits were gone.

He tried to perform it by asking Edgar (poor Tom) to take him to a high cliff overlooking a sea, and leave him there to throw himself off the cliff.
He didn’t succeed in that because Edgar tricked him and took him to a flat piece of land telling him that they were getting close to the cliff. Gloucester fell forward but there was only a slight rise in the ground where he had been standing . He stumbled but there was no cliff so when he fell he was unharmed.

First Goneril and Regan had no loyalty to their father because as soon as they have taken the kingdom, they started treating him with cruelty. First Regan ignored him and ordered her servants not to obey his orders and complained about his knights that they were out of control and changed her palace to an inn and so he should get rid of them. when he became angry and decided to go and stay with Regan she did the same and refused to accept him at her house with all this number of knights.
On the other hand, they had no loyalty to their husbands and this was shown when Regan’s husband died she wanted to marry Edmund and when Goneril knew that, she wanted to get rid of her husband Albany during the war so that she could marry Edmund.

6.Both Edmund and Edgar deceived their father for different reasons. Discuss. First Edmund deceived his father when he told him that Edgar wanted to get rid of him for the sake of the fortune. In fact, Edmund did this to break the relationship between his brother and his father to take the whole property for himself.
On the other hand, Edgar deceived his father for a different reason which was to save him from committing suicide. He took him to a flat piece of land instead of a high cliff and told him to throw himself so when he fell he was unharmed.
