Goodbye (4m)
I wrote this song at the age of 17 whilst studying Music and Music Technology. This song expresses the way I once felt about relationships, before starting a strong and stable long-term relationship. This song was me reflecting on how afraid I was of being in love even when I had never experienced it. Goodbye has a high-mid range and is a song that everyone can connect with at some point in their life. It is quite sad, but truthful and describes how you could feel when things and people around you, hurt you or make you feel bad.
I’m at home with (3m 30s)
This song is about my relationship with my boyfriend. It was written over two years ago. The song has a dreamy feel to it. When recording I’m at home with you I could picture and hear exactly what I wanted for this track. I put a lot of echoes in to create this dreamy atmosphere and the guitar gives a quiet and tranquil feel to it. This song is emotionally strong, with a catchy chorus and tells a clear story. The great thing about love songs is that everyone can relate to love and happiness. This song is positive and attracts a wide audience. I have many artists who have inspired me. I feel this song has influences from Celine Dion, James Horner, Carrie Underwood, Sarah McClaughlin and many more. My songs are all personally based and how I feel at the time. I feel my song writing is the opposite of this quotation,
“10 per cent inspiration, 90 per cent perspiration”
If only you knew (4m)
This song has the strongest, emotional content I have ever composed. I wrote this song the night after my boyfriend was rushed into hospital after a near fatal fall. The lyrics tell a clear, strong story. The melodies sing out the pain and the sadness and the beauty of this song is you can never lose those emotions. Whenever I sing this song it takes me back to those sad, lonely times. The lyrical content mixed with the slow accompaniment of the piano and the strong melodic lines tells a desperate story at the time. The slowness of the song also represents the sense of time and how slow time went waiting to hear news, whether good or bad. If only
Slide 5:
On my way (3m)
Lauren naturally composes more slow meaningful songs but enjoys writing the few upbeat numbers. It is important to get a good riff, On My Way has a staccato riff that creates a fun, punchy and catchy sound. Lauren Casey’s music has been very popular with wide audiences because everyone can relate to her songs in some way. The melodies for the chorus are purposely simple and repetitive so that the audience can learn and sing a long. This song is all about me and learning to love the person you are. The last year has been tough for me and I felt that I had lost my way and needed to get back on track. It tells a story throughout of how it is important to be who you are and be happy with it. I feel a wide audience can relate to this song as everyone faces difficulties in their lives and needs direction and positivity to get through it. This is a ‘feel good’ song and I needed something like this to cheer me up and feel good about myself.
Wonderland (3.31m)
This song immediately captures the ears through the ‘dreamy’ atmosphere of my voice. The lyrics paint a picture of being on a honeymoon. I feel like nothing could get any better. However, the middle of the song goes into a minor key, giving a fear of something bad happening. It is telling the audience that I had broken up with my boyfriend and my dream disappears. But I'm trying to hold onto the dream and I keep awaking knowing things aren’t the way I wantthem to be.
“Am I dreaming, I’m not too sure, but I’ll close my eyes and dream once more.”
“Wonderland” is representing the ‘honeymoon period’ with the dreamy atmosphere and the light voice takes you on a journey but surprises you on the way that it may not have the happy fairytale ending that every girls wishes for.
“It has to pass” expresses all the pain and fear that she has inside of her. The storytelling lyrics reveals the truth that he is not the one she fell in love with.
“Please” will make you want to help her as she begs for your help to find the right answer... If Only...
