I love to travel and I am very active. I am all about sports and the outdoors. Love to camp, fish, hunt, hike…..essentially spicin up life is a must. I am obsessed with volleyball but I also play basketball, tennis, folf and anything else. I have a love affair with music. It has been my passion since I was very young. Now I’m studying music education. I am a people person and I love chillin with my fam and friends…. Most who I’ve met through the Wesley House. (Totally rockin) And I am a proud member of the Grizzly Marching Band! Passion : Passion My drive for music came from Michelle Tebay – my next door neighbor and private lessons teacher I decided in high school that it was my chosen path to teach music I love children of all ages, loved tutoring in high school and a burn for music… it was a no-brainer. Slide 3: My high school music classes were, in essence, hell. I had a different teacher every year from 6th grade to my junior year. They had little desire for music (and knowledge) and little desire to teach. After all of the torture of wanting nothing but to play, you may ask why I chose music… Slide 4: I can’t live without music (I don’t know how anyone could) or dance. The teachers I had gave me the drive to be the teacher that inspired, had passion and didn’t leave their students in the dust And with my faith, I believe that the gifts God has given me should be used to their full potential. My Goals : My Goals ~Take a community and transform it with music. ~Show people the vitality of music to our lives ~Use the power of music to educate children about their other academics ~Always remember as a teacher that learning is a never ending process. Knowledge is limitless. The now… : The now… This is my last semester and in the spring I will student teach. Oh so exciting and nerve-racking. After graduating I plan to teach for a few years and then go off to Limrick, IR to receive a masters in music therapy and get my undergraduate in Irish Dance This summer, I’m hoping to travel to Vienna with the Department of Music to perform and take extraordinary classes. I will also be working towards receiving my EMT-B license and volleyball coach certification. What? You can never go wrong with a couple back-up plans. Experiences : Experiences Irish Dance was a huge influence in me deciding to teach since I have worked with not only a variety of kids, but their parents. I have gotten to work with many walks of life. From welfare to the highly endowed. Dancing taught me what teaching is about. Half the time you are not teaching them….they teach you. It was then that I learned never to underestimate the wisdom and consciousness of a child. I also found out that kids just know. They know when you’re passionate, sad, happy, and when you really don’t know the right answer. Slide 8: My junior year of college I volunteered at Missoula Developmental Services Cor. as a music therapist. It changed my life. My first day, miracles happened (so I was told) and I experienced them first hand. People who were never talked to anyone were singing and clapping and the out of control yellers who were never ceasing, became silent. Regime, a caretaker there pointed all of these people out to me. After that, I never again underestimated the power of music. After a year I saw mentally and physically disabled adults and children improve in their daily lives. Slide 9: I’ve had a plethora of other experiences as well… For three summers, I’ve been a wildland firefighter and radio operator. Lots of team work, dealing with crazy amounts of testosterone, and being a valuable link in communication to firefighters and the public. I’ve also traveled to different types of events and camps to teach children about fire safety, fire readiness and the importance of fire to our environment. I have been an active member of the UM Wesley House which is a huge part of the community in doing habitat for humanity, being a partner with the Poverello Center, traveling about Montana doing “traveling worships,” helping with Sunday schools, and all together just having a good time This is my fifth year as a member of the Grizzly Marching Band (and dang proud of it). I have learned that life’s problems are made up of about 80-90% people problems. I’ve also learned that being focused, on target and learning to have fun no matter what are the essentials to having a great show (and a good outlook for teaching/real life) Slide 10: Within us all, there is a fire waiting to be fueled and unleashed. Once released, it will have a profound impact on the self that let it burn. Not only that, but those who are near will be warmed and inspired not because of the fire itself, but it’s passion to burn wild and fierce. ~Bridget K.
