St. Clare of Assisi : 

St. Clare of Assisi Our Patroness

Clare was a native of Assisi, Italy from a noble family

Clare was born in 1193 died in 1253 canonized a saint in 1255

At age 18 Clare was inspired by a Lenten sermon of St. Francis of Assisi and ran away from home to join him

St. Francis cut Clare’s hair and gave her a penitential cloak to wear

Later Clare was joined in her ministry by her sister, Agnes and her mother, Ortolana
