Student values, beliefs, experiences, communication patterns, learning styles and socioeconomic conditions all shape the ways in which students make sense of items and respond to them.
Linguistic validity
If a student is not proficient in the language of the test, his/her performance will be affected.
We must take into consideration the fact that standardized tests are normed against a sample of test takers who are supposed to be representative of the population of the students who take the same exam. Often the samples include limited numbers of ELLs nationwide.
