THE EUROPEAN SCHOOLS :

THE EUROPEAN SCHOOLS 50 YEARS OLD INTERGOVERNMENTAL + E.C. 14 SCHOOLS in 7 COUNTRIES(EC institutions) 21,000 STUDENTS TEACHERS SECONDED (from MEMBER STATES) FOCUS ON BRUSSELS and LUXEMBOURG MULTILINGUAL AND MULTICULTURAL EUROPEAN BACCALAUREATE www.eursc.eu

Involvement of the European Schools European Schools have been involved in this project from the start European school of Mol was involved in carrying out the mock up and trials of the first version of iclass Number of students and teachers worked with the first version of iclass

Comment by Mr. Jacques Delmas (BXL1) :

Comment by Mr. Jacques Delmas (BXL1) “First of all, I would like to congratulate the designer’s of the iclass website. It’s a new approach which fits perfectly with my day-to-day primary teacher’s needs. Traditional open source LMS are designed with a linear structure: constructivist-learning environment are difficult to build with these tools.”

Students in Mol had this to say :

Students in Mol had this to say “Kunal” After I answered the series of questions I came to the conclusion that the site is user friendly. However, I think the site would look better with a bit of colour. Colours like green, orange and blue would be better than using grey all the time. The font style could be different as well. The site could also include more graphic icons. For example you could put a picture of a student next to the profiler tool link or add a picture of a group of students next to class. Compared to Microsoft Classerver, the iclass program seems dull and dreary.

Slide 10:

The recommendations after the review of the 1st release placed the European Schools as one of the key pedagogical partners Along with contributing to the new educational vision adopted by iClass the European schools, with a number of teachers, has been in the forefront with contributions that have made the second version of iclass more end-user friendly.

Slide 11:

In May 2007 the ‘Focus Group’ made up of teachers of European Schools were introduced to the pedagogical model behind the next release of iclass

Slide 12:

The model is built on three main concepts: Self-Regulation Personalization Intrinsic Motivation Self-regulated personalized learning (SRPL) is considered to be a developmental process where individual’s identity as a lifelong learner is established. Overview of the current Pedagogical Model Goals

Slide 13:

The learner not only acquires skills, but also has the motivational drive to persist in learning and to develop further skills and attitudes needed for supporting their identity as an intrinsically motivated self regulated learner.

Slide 14:

Using skype and now Adobe Connect conference calls, teachers of the European Schools are involved in weekly conferences with the project partners in BGU, Israel These conferences were designed to introduce the teachers to the pedagogical model so that they could successfully present it to their students and colleagues involved in the mock up

Slide 15:

The European Schools conducted the iclass Mock up in May 2007 simultaneously in both Primary and Secondary schools in Mol, Brussels 1 & Brussels III The Students and 9 teachers filled in detailed questionnaires that were then analysed and suggestions and feedback used by the iclass team

Slide 16:

These online conferences continue and are designed to discuss how the teachers involved are going to select and test one of the main concepts of the pedagogical model in classroom with their students and then provide feedback Personalisation, Choice, Reflection, Exploration , Experimentation are a few of the concepts that will be used and tested
