Presentation – Friday - Fr. David L. Fleming, S.J. The Passion of Christ and the Third Week :

Presentation – Friday - Fr. David L. Fleming, S.J. The Passion of Christ and the Third Week Ignatian Passion – Feeling, Conviction, Enthusiasm, Zeal The church has never defined Redemption; it has identified Incarnation Salvation has not been identified. For us and our salvation He came down from heaven, He was crucified. Meaning of redemption; meaning of the cross; this will always be a part of the (Paschal) mystery. What about the cross is so essential to our faith? The cross symbolizes us being actively engaged in carrying the cross. Jesus does not hide the cost of following Him. Jesus and washing of feet teaches and instructs us to share what we have learned. Eucharist, the cross, is a sign of His greatest love. Eucharist is the NOW moment of the love of Jesus

Workshop I - Friday A.M. – Carl Jung and the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola Anthony T. Moore, Ph.D. Georgetown University :

Workshop I - Friday A.M. – Carl Jung and the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola Anthony T. Moore, Ph.D. Georgetown University Discussed ego (the I) vs. self (the center and whole) Conscious (that what we are aware of, thoughts, memories, feelings) vs. unconscious (not aware of it, psychic content, dreams, images) A strong connection with Jung and St. Ignatius is the fact they both rely on the importance of finding the self and learning through active imagination. Discussed the psychic energy that flows up from the unconscious into consciousness. From Jung’s perspective, the Self is guiding the Conscious Ego toward wholeness. From Ignatius’ perspective, God is guiding the person toward his/her own part in the fulfillment of God’s Dream for the World (Kingdom). When have I been energized or given purpose by a vision?

Workshop II - (A4) Figure it Out: A Review of the Rules for Discernment for the First Week – Jack Callahan, S.J. :

Workshop II - (A4) Figure it Out: A Review of the Rules for Discernment for the First Week – Jack Callahan, S.J. Literally…….the Rules taken from the actual Annotations of St. Ignatius Each paragraph of the Annotations are numbered for accurate reference We reviewed paragraph 314 – 327 Discernment happens in the spirit or movement of consolation or desolation When discerning…don’t seek the gift of God. Seek God. Be Open … not secretive…Let it all be revealed in the presence of God.

Presentation – Saturday AM – What Does Ignatian Passion Look Like Today? - Marie Schwan, C.S.J. :

Presentation – Saturday AM – What Does Ignatian Passion Look Like Today? - Marie Schwan, C.S.J. Note: She is one of the authors of the Take & Receive Book Series that we use for our Long Retreat Jesus surrenders to us as food for the journey, surrenders to the Father his love and life. “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father”. Our intimacy in following Jesus should take in the whole of our life; as is here and now. What have I done for Christ? What am I doing for Christ? What will I do for Christ? See what Jesus does Hear what Jesus says Let Jesus tell you how he feels. Icon in the Eastern Tradition is a sacrament – it is a window through which we see. What is Jesus on this cross saying to us? What do we hear? What is our challenge for the 21st century? What spoke to me…in my heart?

Workshop – Saturday Afternoon – The Pierre Favre Program: Training to Give the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius - Fr. Bernie Bush, S.J. Sr. Anne Hennessy, C.S.J. This was a description and review of a Three-Year course created to train Jesuit Lay Partners to Give The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. WE…thought we would learn some tips on giving a retreat. We (Diana, Barbara & Ellie) actually learned That we don’t want to take this course That you invest 3 years of your life and don’t even get a degree That we probably wouldn’t be good students, anyway That we are very happy with how Sr. Teresa Mary does things around here… Thank You Very Much!

Ahhhh….The places we’ve gone……the things we’ve seen… :

Ahhhh….The places we’ve gone……the things we’ve seen… Attended (really early) Mass on Friday Morning … (another Valerie suggestion) Matthew 20:20-28 – “What do you wish?” “Can you drink the chalice that I am going to drink?” Ellie learned how to play ‘Beer Pong’ with a few college students at the local Iggy’s Mexican Restaurant. (sort of like ping pong without the paddles) Some people took a tour of the Couples House Valerie, Barbara, and Martha (and probably Kevin) took an unguided tour of the city… all the way to the Arch, meanwhile Ellie and Diana met new friends and tried not to get ran over by a train. We visited the Religious Art Museum (on campus) … really cool stuff. Visited Mocra – The world’s first interfaith museum of contemporary art that engages religious and spiritual themes. Made friends with people from all over the place …Ed & Billy (From Baltimore, don’t ya know), Brigitte, Mary, Caroline, Donna, Glenna, the 2 Padres, and especially Kelly…the guy with the golf cart ! TRIVIA QUESTION: What’s a Billiken? Of course, it’s the SLU (St. Louis University) Mascot …that’s what! Everyone agrees that the Billiken is a good-luck figure who represents "things as they ought to be."
