Newton’s 2nd Law and Rockets :Newton’s 2nd Law and Rockets By: Danielle Mabrey, and Aaron White

Newton’s 2nd Law :Newton’s 2nd Law Newton’s Second Law explains how the velocity of an object changes when it is turned into an external force.

Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion. :Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion. According to Newton’s Second Law of Motion, the acceleration of and object equals the net force divided by the object’s mass. The acceleration is in the same direction as the net force.

Acceleration of rockets. :Acceleration of rockets. The bigger the mass of the rocket, the more force is needed to accelerate. The smaller the rocket, there is less acceleration needed to launch the rocket.

Speed. :Speed. Newton’s second law of motion is useful when designing efficient rockets. To enable a rocket to rise into low earth orbit, it is necessary to achieve a speed, in excess of 28,000 km per hour.

Speed cont. :Speed cont. A speed of over 40,250 km per hour, is called escape velocity, which allows a rocket to leave earth and travel out deep into space. http://www.spacetoday.org/images/Rockets/AtlasRockets/Atlas5rocketLMCOartist.jpg

Attaining flight speeds. :Attaining flight speeds. To be able to attain space flight speeds require the rocket engine to achieve the greatest action of force possible in the shortest amount of time. In other words, the engine must burn a large mass of fuel and push the resulting gas out of the engine as rapidly as possible.

Newton’s 2nd Law can be restated as….. :Newton’s 2nd Law can be restated as….. The greater the mass of rocket fuel burned, and the faster the gas produced can escape the engine, the greater the force of the rocket.

How does Newton’s 2nd Law apply to rockets?? :How does Newton’s 2nd Law apply to rockets?? Newton’s 2nd Law is applied to rockets because, the acceleration of an object is relative to the net force exerted on the object. It is also oppositely proportional to the mass of the object while being accelerated.

Fuel. :Fuel. The more fuel that is burnt and the faster the produced gas escapes the rocket, the greater the force of the rocket.

The End. :The End. Thank you for watching our slide show. -Danielle, and Aaron.
