High Student Achievement : Austin Public Schools provides individualized instruction for all students using data from a variety of sources. High Student Achievement High Student Achievement : Austin Public School’s Balanced Literacy Program includes four major components Reading Instruction Writing/Word Work Assessments Motivation High Student Achievement High Student Achievement : Austin students perform above the state and nation on the ACT Test High Student Achievement High Student Achievement : Austin students perform above the Big 9 and state averages on the 10th grade GRAD reading test High Student Achievement High Student Achievement : Over the past few years Austin Public Schools has increased the number and rigor of math and science offerings for students in 6th – 12th grade. Since 2005, 89.8% of exiting seniors rated their educational experience at Austin High School as favorable. High Student Achievement Satisfied Parents : 93.3% of parents surveyed in February of this year responded that they are satisfied or very satisfied with the communication from their child’s school. 91.3% of parents surveyed in February of this year responded that they are satisfied or very satisfied with their student’s academics. Satisfied Parents Slide 14: LEGEND: 5 = Very Satisfied 4 = Satisfied 3 = Neutral 2 = Dissatisfied 1 = Very Dissatisfied Safe and Engaging Environment : Math Masters Geography Bee Spelling Bee Student Council Drama/Plays Science Fair After School Clubs Character Counts Choir, Orchestra & Band WORD Athletics Safe and Engaging Environment Providing opportunities to be involved in school sponsored activities Safe and Engaging Environment : Safe and Engaging Environment Ellis students can choose from more than 25 clubs and organizations and 26 sports to participate in during the school year. Students also have a wide variety of opportunities to stay active during the summer with school sponsored enrichment classes and camps. Safe and Engaging Environment : Safe and Engaging Environment According to the Minnesota Student Survey “92.5% of 6th grade students report that they feel safe at school. 94% of 9th grade students report that they feel safe at school. 91.5% of 12th grade students report that they feel safe at school. Austin High School reported a 17% decrease in chemical violations from 06/07 to 07/08 Safe and Engaging Environment : Safe and Engaging Environment Trustworthiness Respect Responsibility Fairness Caring Citizenship Fiscal Responsibility : Austin Public Schools spent $4.7 million at local businesses in 2007-08 Austin Public Schools spends $10,202 on each student per year Austin Public Schools realized cost avoidance of $251,868 since 2005 through energy conservation Fiscal Responsibility Fiscal Responsibility : Austin Public Schools is the 5th largest employer in Austin 79.2% of Austin Public School employees live in Austin Fiscal Responsibility Fiscal Responsibility : Austin Public Schools has applied for and received more than $7 million in grants. These grants provide extra programming while saving tax payers money. Since 1998 Austin Public Schools has taken the fund balance from a negative 1.2% to a positive 15.9% .
