To + V … : To + V … Verb cannot place in infinitive position. example You promised come to the class. (X) You promised to come to the class. (O) Verb + -ing or to… : Verb + -ing or to… Followed by –ing Followed by to… Some verbs are followed by ing or to.. With a different of meaning I stop smoking. I stop to smoke. Gerund : Gerund 1. Gerund comes from verb. But, gerund is not role as verb. Gerund roles as noun. 2. Gerund still has a verb characteristic.
