Slide 1:Elvis Presley in Neve Ilan Israel
Slide 2:. On the way to Jerusalem, on the left side of the highway, is a small town called Neve Ilan.
Slide 3:All around this village is a beautiful view of trees, plants and mountains. In the entrance is a gas station and an interesting restaurant.
Slide 4:What is so interesting about this restaurant? The restaurant is named after a famous singer, Elvis Presley, who lived in America in the 50’s & 60’s.
Slide 5:What is Elvis Presley doing in Israel? According to one story, the owner of the restaurant was a fan of Elvis and he put up a lot of pictures around his house.
Slide 6:His wife wondered how she could get rid of these photos and came up with the idea to hang up all the photos in their restaurant and that is what she did.
Slide 7:The owner of the restaurant noticed that people called his restaurant, the Elvis restaurant. So he decided to call the restaurant The Elvis Inn.
Slide 8:On the walls in the restaurant there are about 1,000 photos of Elvis - on coffee mugs, sugar packets, and more. Of course there are souvenirs of Elvis to buy.
Slide 9:The owner of the Elvis Inn saved his money and built a 16 foot, gold statue of Elvis with his guitar, outside of the restaurant.
Slide 10:Many tourists stop here on their way to and from Jerusalem, eating, looking and being photographed next to Elvis.
Slide 11:If you are a fan of Elvis, or even if you are not, you could visit the Elvis Inn!
Slide 12:More stories in easy Hebrew with English vocabulary are in Lihyot Yisraeli – To Be Israeli by Leah Brodersen, available in paperback from www.MyHebrewBooks.com or at Steimatzky bookstores.
