Nutrients :

Nutrients Nutrients are materials in food that are used by the body Examples of nutrients are: vitamins, minerals, and proteins.


Vitamins Vitamins are nutrients that help your body use proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. What are the different types of vitamins that help keep our bodies healthy? Vitamin A, B, C, D, E and K.

Vitamin A:

Vitamin A What is the purpose of Vitamin A? Vitamin A helps to keep our eyes, skin, teeth, and bones healthy. Which foods have Vitamin A? Yellow and orange foods like carrots

Vitamin B:

Vitamin B What is the purpose of Vitamin B? Vitamin B converts the food we eat into energy for our bodies. Which foods have Vitamin B? Meats, nuts, fish, and dairy

Vitamin C:

Vitamin C What is the purpose of Vitamin C? Vitamin C helps to heal wounds and keep bad diseases away from our bodies. Which foods have Vitamin C? Citrus fruits

Vitamin D:

Vitamin D What is the purpose of Vitamin D? Vitamin D is essential for strong bones and teeth. Which foods have Vitamin D? Milk, Dairy, and the SUN!

Vitamin E:

Vitamin E What is the purpose for Vitamin E? Vitamin E keeps our heart healthy and arteries clean. Which foods have Vitamin E? Nuts, avocados, and pumpkins

Vitamin K:

Vitamin K What is the purpose of Vitamin K? Vitamin K keeps our blood healthy and clotting properly Which foods have Vitamin K? Broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, and eggs


Minerals Your body needs these to help you grow, develop, and be healthy. You get the minerals you need from the food you eat, and each on has special tasks that the body wants them to do! Two types of minerals: macro & trace minerals

Maco Minerals:

Maco Minerals Your body needs LARGE amounts of these minerals Calcium is in milk, cheese and yogurt Potassium is found in fruit, seeds and nuts, bananas, and potatoes Iron is needed in red blood cells and it helps oxygen move around your body Sodium can be found in meats, bread, and table salt

Trace Minerals:

Trace Minerals Your body only needs a SMALL about of these minerals Zinc helps you grow Found in meat, fish and poultry Iron helps make red blood cells which carry oxygen around your body Red meat, liver, and some cereals Calcium helps to build strong bones and teeth Milk, cheese, yogurt and other dairy products

Food Groups The food pyramid divides food into five different food groups. Each food group provides a certain amount of nutrients that both adults and children need for general health. Each food group is represented by a colored stripe on the pyramid.
