The networks can be connected at two levels, the physical and the other is logical. A topology basically defines how the network has to be designed and provides a structure to the network. The bus network has a terminator on each end of the network . If a terminator is not ...Ring network - : Ring network - A ring network is a network topology in which each node connects to exactly two other nodes, forming a single continuous pathway for signals through each ... Jump to Ring : Ring. Main article: Ring network. Ring network topology . A network topology that is set up in a circular fashion in which data travels around ...What is ring topology? : What is ring topology ? Alternatively referred to as a ring network , the ring topology is a computer network configuration where each network computer and device are connected to . Network Topologies :: Ring In a ring network , every device has exactly two neighbors for communication purposes. All messages travel through a ring in the same direction (effectively ... This page illustrates the mesh topology diagram. by Bradley Mitchell Network topologies are categorized into the following basic types: bus; ring; star; tree; mesh . More complex networks can be built as hybrids of two or more of the ... What is mesh ? Also called mesh topology or a mesh network , mesh is a network topology in which devices are connected with many redundant interconnections between .Mesh Topology : Mesh Topology Mesh Network is a network where all the nodes are connected to each other and is a complete network. In a Mesh Network every node is connected to other nodes on the network through hops. Some are connected through single hops and some may be connected with more than one hope. While the data is traveling on the Mesh Network it is automatically configured to reach the destination by taking the shortest route which means the least number of hops. Data travels by hopping from one node to another and then reaches the destination node in a Mesh Topology Network .PowerPoint Presentation: An example of a Mesh Network is the Mobile Adhoc Network or MANet. The entire Mesh Network is continuously connected. Being completely connected does not mean that Mesh Network is dependant on each and every node of the network. Even if one node fails in the Mesh Network the network finds an alternate route to transfer the data. It is called the self healing technology where it receives data one way or the other. Wireless Mesh Networks Wireless Mesh Networks work based on the radio frequencies and was originally developed by the army to be able to communicatePowerPoint Presentation: • Fixed Wireless Connections • Peer to Peer or Adhoc Networks • Node to Node Fixed Mesh Networks The fixed Mesh Networks will work only in the specified location and they are not mobile networks. They are meant to be used in a limited surrounding with boundaries. The location of nodes in affixed Mesh Network is all pre determined and they are not interchangeable. The fixed Mesh Network does not work on line of sight like the other types of Mesh Networks. The total number of hops in a fixed Mesh Network is usually fixed and also short. There may not be many nodes as this kind of Mesh Networks exist within an office or building. More often than not the data travels ion a specific direction. Peer to Peer Mobile NetworksPowerPoint Presentation: Tree topology Among all the Network Topologies we can derive that the Tree Topology is a combination of the bus and the Star Topology. The tree like structure allows you to have many servers on the network and you can branch out the network in many ways. This is particularly helpful for colleges, universities and schools so that each of the branches can identify the relevant systems in their own network and yet connect to the big network in some way. A Tree Structure suits best when the network is widely spread and vastly divided into many branches. Like any other topologies, the Tree Topology has its advantages and disadvantages. A Tree Network may not suit small networks and it may be a waste of cable to use it for small networks. Tree Topology has some limitations and the configuration should suit those limitations.PowerPoint Presentation: Tree Network topology Benefits A Tree Topology is supported by many network vendors ad even hardware vendors. A point to point connection is possible with Tree Networks. All the computers have access to the larger and their immediate networks. Best topology for branched out networks. Tree Topology Conclusion The signals that are being transmitted by the root node are received by all the nodes at the same time. This increases the efficiency of the over all functioning of the network. The Tree Network topology can be extended easily to function and there are no limitations to how big it can be extended. Additional root nodes can be added and they can be interconnected within one single network.PowerPoint Presentation: Star topology Star Topology is the most common type of network topology that is used in homes and offices. In the Star Topology there is a central connection point called the hub which is a computer hub or sometimes just a switch. In a Star Network the best advantage is when there is a failure in cable then only one computer might get affected and not the entire network. The Star Network Topology typically needs more cable to be networked than the usual Bus topology. A common cable that is used in Star Network is the UTP or the unshielded twisted pair cable. Another common cable that is used in star networks is the RJ45 or the Ethernet cables. In a Star Network the entire network is dependant on the hub so if the entire network is not working then there could be a problem with the hub. This feature makes it easy to troubleshoot by offering a single point for error connection ad at the same time the dependency is also very high on that single point .PowerPoint Presentation: Star Topology Advantages • A Star Network Topology is very easy to manage because of its simplicity in functionality. • The problems can be easily located logically in a Star Topology and therefore is easy to troubleshoot also. • The Star Topology is very simple in format so it is very easy to expand on the Star Topology . Star Topology Disadvantages • The Star Topology is fully dependant on the hub and the entire working of the network depends on the hub or the switch. • If there are many nodes and the cable is long then the network may slow down.PowerPoint Presentation: Star Topology Conclusion A Star Network Topology is best suited for smaller networks and works efficiently when there is limited number of nodes. One has to ensure that the hub or the central node is always working and extra security features should be added to the hub because it s the heart of the network.
