The first pioneered corporate university model was General Electric’s in 1950 and more recently such a model is used for training has been adopted by a very large number of corporates worldwide. Accoridng to updated statistics, there were 400 corporate universities in the U.S.A at the begining of 1990 and that number had grown up 1800 by the end of 2000. Steps to create corporate university model : Steps to create corporate university model Senior managers form a governing body. Vision statement need to be developed. A company has to decide how to fund the university. The degree to which all training needs to be centralized need to be determined. The needs to university customers must be identified. Products and services need to be developed. Slide 4: 7. Choose learning partners including: suppliers, consultants, colleges, and companies specializing in education. Develop and utilize to new technologies to train employees. Learning occurs should be linked specific performance improvement. Finally, value of corporate university needs to be communicated to potential customers. Purpose of corporate university model : Purpose of corporate university model Traditionally, the purpose of corporate university has been detrmined by the need to train the employees. To develop the employees general skills. To organize training programs and distribute those programs among corporate staff in the form of “catalogues” from which staff chose courses and enrolled into corresponding training activity. Drivers for new role of corporate university : Drivers for new role of corporate university An initiative driven approach, where the services of cu’s focus on facilitating a corporate wide initiative, or business model, or project, such as initiative about generalization, productivity, & process reengineering A change management catalyst that helps shape & complete transitory process for company such as accompanying mergers and acquisiton process. A leadership development agent to uphold managers with new tools for leadership and strengthening corporate internal management. Customers/ suppliers relationship management tool that focuses on integrating standards in the supply chain. Business embeded models : Business embeded models Business embeded models are an emerging trend that views trainees, their managers and senior level decision makers as customers of training. A business model is charecterized by five competencies: Strategic direction including a clearly described goal and direction to the department. Product deign. Structural versatility. Product delivery. Accoountability for results. Advantages of business embeded model : Advantages of business embeded model Compared to traditional training department, a business embeded model is more focussed. The most noticeable difference between business embeded model and a traditional training department is its structure. Basic principles of business embeded model : Basic principles of business embeded model Decide what you do Broaden your vision but narrow your focus. Strategy is about making choices. 2.
