Whilst most famous for his paintings such as the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper , Leonardo is also renowned as a scientist, engineer and inventor. The areas of his scientific study included aeronautics , anatomy , astronomy , botany , cartography , civil engineering , chemistry , geology , geometry , hydrodynamics , mathematics , mechanical engineering , optics , physics , pyrotechnics and zoologyThe life: The life His early life was spent in the region of Vinci, in the valley of the Arno River near Florence . . In 1466, Leonardo was sent to Florence to the workshop of the artist Verrocchio , in order to learn the skills of an artist . At the workshop, as well as painting and drawing , he learnt the study of topographical anatomy .
