The adjectives “a” or “an” and “the” are called articles.
Articles tell us about the nouns that they precede. Following are the types of articles:

Indefinite articles :
Indefinite articles have two forms: “a” and “an” .
‘A’ and ‘an’ are used only with singular countable nouns to indicate the indefiniteness of the given noun.

Before a particular person or thing

Before a singular noun when it is used to represent a whole class
