Psychometric Instruments- Psychology at Work

FIRO:

FIRO The FIRO instrument is a personality questionnaire focusing on how individuals behave towards others, and how they expect others to behave towards them. Using a simple model of interpersonal relationship styles, the FIRO tool can reveal hidden mismatches between wanted and expressed behaviour, offering profound insights that touch at the heart of an individual's sense of who they are.

Addressing the core of personality :

Addressing the core of personality This tool looks at three interpersonal 'need areas', identifying sources of tension within an individual's profile. Ambiguities in these areas can be the reason behind complex and difficult relationship issues, so when other tools have not been effective, the FIRO instrument is often the answer.

Enabling genuinely productive long-term relationships :

Enabling genuinely productive long-term relationships The new awareness gained from using the FIRO tool both increases the chances of a person's needs being met and helps them manage their impact on others. It can also help them understand what type of workplace they thrive in - a powerful way of keeping people engaged and satisfied.

Applying depth of understanding in a practical way :

Applying depth of understanding in a practical way The FIRO tool is well suited to both one-to-one and team settings, including the following: Personal development Individual coaching at all levels Leadership and management development Awareness of fit to future role Senior level assessment Relationship with stakeholders and clients Conflict management Raising self-awareness Team development Interpersonal communication Workplace relationships

MBTI:

MBTI The MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) questionnaire provides a highly insightful framework for individual and group development, provoking self-awareness by looking at how a person perceives the world and how they prefer to interact with others. The MBTI instrument sorts individuals into psychological 'types' so that they can identify how they are similar to some people and different to others, and how they can improve their working and personal relationships in a positive and constructive way.

MBTI Step I :

MBTI Step I MBTI Step I identifies an individual's psychological 'type' (made up of four basic preferences) and provides a common language around how we interact with the world and each other.

MBTI Step II:

MBTI Step II MBTI Step II enables exploration of the unique way in which an individual expresses their preferences by providing analyses of the five facets of each Step I dimension.

Accessible yet incisive :

Accessible yet incisive Those who use the questionnaire find it easy to grasp, insightful and thought-provoking, whether they are running or participating in an MBTI development session. People often experience 'light bulb moments' as they gain an understanding of their own and others’ psychological type.

The constructive use of differences :

The constructive use of differences Because the MBTI tool provides a common language for appreciating interpersonal differences, many organizations make it their instrument of choice across their development programmes. For individuals, to be able to safely explore their understanding of themselves as they relate to the world and to others can be life-transforming.

A solid research foundation keeps it relevant :

A solid research foundation keeps it relevant The MBTI instrument is based on Carl Jung's theory of psychological type, and was developed by mother and daughter team Isabel Briggs Myers and Katharine Cook Briggs over 50 years ago. Their life’s work was to continually enhance the content and applicability of the indicator, and their writings on type and self-development remain utterly resonant today, both in professional and personal life. A vibrant community of enthusiastic practitioners continue this work, constantly generating fresh ideas, research and resources for new users.
