GOOD AFTERNOON Welcome To the municipal tourism Council meeting

What Defines Tourism? The movement of people A sector of the economy or industry A system of interacting relationship of people; their needs to travel outside their communities and services that attempt to respond to these needs by supplying products.

Slide 3: 

TOURIST –> one who stays more than 24 hours in a certain place or community to rest, relax, the opportunity to meet new people and experience other cultures, or simply to do something different and have an adventure.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES To fomulate programs and recommendations to develop local tourism facilities and attractions tapping local resources and funds; To assist in the regulation and supervision of tourism-oriented establishments thereby ensuring wholesome and clean tourism activities; To assist in monitoring the implementation of Local Government Code on the matter of licensing of tourism establishments in the locality to ascertain safe and enjoyable stay of travellers; and To strictly enforce sanitary standards in public restrooms frequented by public utility vehicles and tourist transport services, i.e. gasoline stations, restaurants among main highways and bus stops.

MUNICIPAL TOURISM COUNCIL Honorary Chairman- Mayor Chairman- Private sector Other positions, i.e., Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Directors may be created at the discretion of the Council members. The following local government officials must be invited as members. City/Municipal Engineer, Health Officer, PNP Station Commander, Sangguniang Member, District Supervisor and Private sector participation must be drawn mainly of the business sector, and must comprise majority of the membership

MEETINGS: Recommended minimum frequency of meetings of city/town and provincial councils is quarterly (or four times a year) A regional council meeting must be hold at least twice a year.

BASIC CONCERNS/ACTIVITIES OF LOCAL TOURISM OFFICE and COUNCILS (Municipal/Barangay) To initiate, maintain and control sanitation, cleanliness and beautification activities in the community. To monitor major road and street improvements plans particularly those that effect access to city/town proper and tourist spots, and to serve government action where it may be urgently needed. To oversee maintenance and upkeep of public toilets and comfort areas inside restaurants, hotels, gas stations, moviehouses, bus stations, airports, etc. To develop and promote regular food festivals, sportsfests, cultural presentations, flea markets, etc. As tourism activities.

5. To liaise and coordinate with police agencies on maters of traffic and peace and order conditions affecting tourism and to monitor and assist in the early resolution of crimes reported by tourists. 6. To plan, develop and initiate training programs for personnel in food and lodging establishments and local tour guides. (when necessary) in collaboration with accredited organizations , i.e, HRAP, PTAA and others. 7. To study and initiate the development and establishment of a cultural/tourism museum depicting in photos, antiques, costumes, etc. of the community. 8. To study and initiate installation of highly visible (land uniform) road directional signs and billboards leading to various tourist destinations in the community.

9. To initiate and promote exchange-visit programs among religious organizations with their counterparts in provinces/cities and regions. To organize or to encourage organization of a local dance and music cultural group with the support of private sectors and to schedule performances of the group in barangays and or in the community. To monitor availability of transport and communication services i.e,. Airport, bus stations, PLDT, Smart, Globe To create and promote continued awareness on the benefits of tourism though local media.

13. To seek, liaise and coordinate with licensed tour operators for the promotion of the community as a tourist destination. 14. To initiate and promote a community-side campaign on “courtesy”. 15 . To prepare and submit proposals for legislation aimed at stimulating investments and/or providing incentives, protecting and sustaining the local tourism industry.
