This subgroup is greatly affected by socioeconomic disparities . (PN) Economic Disparities: (PN) Economic Disparities The data in the chart to the right is indicative of economic disparities within the Promise Neighborhood. Specifically, the African American unemployment rate indicates a major factor for economic disparities. High unemployment is correlated with illiteracy, criminal behaviors and poor parental examples for children. African-American Unemployment Rate Males 16-24 19.80% Females 16-24 17.70% Males 25-64 6.50% Females 25-64 8.10% White Males 16-24 11.00% Females 16-24 8.7% Males 25-64 0% Females 25-64 0% Hispanic None Females 16-24 15.10% None Females 25-64 9.40% (PN) Social Disparities: (PN) Social Disparities Council district crime rates have been identified as a major social indicator for social disparities in Nashville- Davidson County. Of all the rates reported for the thirty-five council districts, four of the highest crime rates were in council districts 2, 5, 6 and 19. While over the two year period reported the overall crime rates has dropped, it is still considerable high. Council District # of Violent Incidents Reported 2009 2010 2 469 435 5 378 378 6 641 559 19 626 599 Total: 2,114 1,971 (PN) Educational Disparities: (PN) Educational Disparities Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) is the second largest school district in Tennessee. Currently, African-Americans represent the largest student subgroup within the district.
