Drought :

Drought We are the Mind Warriors and here is our solution to drought in Georgia

Drought In Georgia :

Drought In Georgia The drought is wreaking havoc on the Georgia area Particularly Lake Linear, as Atlanta gets most of its water from the lake this poses a serious problem Although the lake level is starting to rise a little we are trying to increase the speed at which we recover from the drought and to prevent further drought

Ways That Water Is Used :

Ways That Water Is Used Did you know that less than one percent of the water that is cleaned for our consumption is actually drunk or used for cooking? The other 99 percent is actually used for other purposes

The Problem We Are Going To Address :

The Problem We Are Going To Address Toilet water is actually the largest use of water in any house We are going to try to decrease the amount of water used in houses to flush toilets The average person flushes the toilet 3-4 times a day Clean water is not needed to flush toilets so we are going to get water that is not necessarily clean enough to drink or use to cook

Slide 5:

Our Solution A Solar Powered Atmospheric Water Generator

Atmospheric Water Generator :

Atmospheric Water Generator An Atmospheric Water Generator (AWG) works on the same principle as a dehumidifier but serves a different purpose. An AWG is used to take water out of the air and put it in a liquid state. This works best in humid areas and is especially useful in areas like Georgia where water is scarce but humidity is abundant

Georgia Humidity :

Georgia Humidity Minimum Humidity Level for Optimal Atmospheric Water Generation

Prices Today :

Prices Today Our ideal system would be a solar powered AWG that can produce 144 pints of water a day This is enough for the average family of 4 to flush the toilet 12 times a day, the average number of times per day and this is every where including school and work so there would be plenty of extra water In order to make this possible TODAY it would cost about $10,000

Water Saving :

Water Saving Extra water produced by the AWG could be used be stored in an extra tank for night and not so sunny/humid days At full solar capacity our ideal system would generate many extra watts and this would be stored in batteries so that the system could function after the sun goes down.

Future costs :

Future costs Currently the solar part of our system would cost $8350, yet in the 2020 this part would only cost about $1670. This is a price decline of over $6,600 in just 12 years! The price will continue to decline making this an even more attractive solution as it completely eliminates over a quarter of your water bill

Dehumidification Technology :

Dehumidification Technology This technology is greatly improving it’s efficiency making it cheaper to extract more water from the air. Lonnie Johnson, the creator of super soaker, has created a new super efficient way to dehumidify the air. He has created an 60% efficient thermal transfer device that could be used in some types of dehumidifiers. This could greatly reduce the price of dehumidifiers making more efficient ones cheaper with a lesser energy draw. This reduces the number of solar panels needed…a double whammy to the price of our system! This could bring the price of our ideal system down to well under $1,000

Other Places Where Our System Will Help :

Other Places Where Our System Will Help Our system can be used anywhere that there is humidity and lots of sun It is especially useful in places with a drought that are still humid and sunny. Some places like Atlanta that have high humidity and are in drought: Southwestern North Dakota Southern Oregon Northern Wisconsin Delaware

Our Prototype

Conclusion :

Conclusion We have developed an environmentally friendly system that extracts water from the air This can not only be implemented for flushing toilets but also for watering plants and washing cars. If this system were implemented in 1,000,000 Atlanta homes, it would save 18 million gallons of water a day, (2-3%)

General Facts :

General Facts Atlanta uses 700m gallons of water a day 220 days of sunny days a year in Georgia Earth’s atmosphere contains 10.5 billion acre feet of water (6X more than all the world’s rivers)(324 trillion gallons)
