DEFINITION:

DEFINITION DEFINED AS ONE BASIC TISSUES OF THE BODY WHICH GIVES STRUCTURAL AND METABOLIC SUPPORT TO OTHER TISSUES AND ORGANS OF THE BODY. IT CONNECTS OTHER TISSUES.

GENERAL FEATURES:

GENERAL FEATURES MADE UP OF –(a) CELLS, (b)FIBRES AND (c)GROUND SUBSTANCE. 2. HAS LARGE AMOUNT OF EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX. 3. MOST OF THE CONNECTIVE TISSUE DEVELOPS FROM MESODERM, EXCEPT PIGMENT CELLS.

IT IS COMPOSED MAINLY OF: MUCOPOLYSACCHARIDES/GLYCOSAMINOGLYCANS- HEPARAN SULPHATE,CHONDROITIN SULPHATE, HYALURONIC ACID. 2.GLYCOPROTEINS- CHONDRONECTIN IN CARTILAGE. 3. WATER AND ELECTROLYTES.

CELLS OF THE CONNECTIVE TISSUE:

CELLS OF THE CONNECTIVE TISSUE CELL MORPHOLOGY FUNCTION 1.FIBROBLAST 2. MESENCHYMAL CELLS 3. ADIPOSE CELLS FLAT CELLS, HAVE MANY PROCESSES, OVAL NUCLEUS, BASOPHILLIC CYTOPLASM, MATURE OLD FIBROBLAST ARE KNOWN AS FIBROCYTE, FIBROBLAST WITH CONTRACTILE PROPERTIES ARE KNOWN AS MYOFIBROBLAST. THEY ARE UNDIFFENTIATED CELLS, STELLATE IN SHAPE, HAVE PROCESSES. OVAL IN SHAPE, HAS A SINGLE LIPID DROPLET (UNILOCULAR) WHICH LEAVES A LARGE EMPTY SPACE, A THIN RIM OF CYTOPLASM AND A PERIPHERAL NUCLEUS .(SIGNET RING APPEARANCE) RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PRODUCTION AND MAINTENANCE OF FIBRES AND GROUND SUBSTANCE OF THE CONNECTIVE TISSSUE. CAN GIVE RISE TO ANY TYPE OF CELL IF STIMULATED.

PLASMA CELLS STELLATE CELLS WITH PROCESSES CONTAINING PIGMENT GRANULES IN THE CYTOPLASM HAVE VARIOUS SHAPES- STELLATE, OVAL, FUSIFORM etc, HAVE ECCENTRIC BEAN SHAPED NUCLEUS, AND PROCESSES. OVAL IN SHAPE, ECCENTRIC NUCLEUS WHICH GIVES A TYPICAL CART WHEEL APPEARENCE , BASOPHILLIC CYTOPLASM ARE OF 2 TYPES- (a)MELANOCYTES- CONCERNED WITH THE PRODUCTION OF PIGMENT AND (b) MELANOPHORES- CONCERNED WITH STORAGE OF PIGMENT GRANULES. PHAGOCYTIC IN NATURE- DESTROY BACTERIA , FOREIGN BODIES AND DEAD TISSUES.
