Slide 1:

After much discussion and a lot of research my team have decided to go with the genre of ‘alternative-rock’. This allows scope for a wide range of artists, themes and more importantly audiences. We looked through a lot of artists under this genre and we found there are also many sub genres such as ‘indie-rock’ which included bands such as ‘The Vaccines’. There are certain traits that appear in music videos of this genre. These often include certain colour schemes including beiges and browns, lots of retro and vintage items and groups of young people (between the ages of 16-21). Genre.

Slide 2:

Alternative Rock. Alternative rock is a genre of rock music that emerged in the 1980s and became popular in the 1990s. Alternative rock consists of various subgenres that have emerged from the independent music scene since the 1980s, such as grunge, Britpop, gothic rock, indie pop, and indie rock. These genres are unified by their collective debt to the style or ethos of punk rock, which laid the groundwork for alternative music in the 1970s. Some examples of alternative rock bands that have achieved commercial success and mainstream critical recognition are Red Hot Chili Peppers, R.E.M ., Coldplay, The Smiths, The Cure, Foo Fighters, Oasis, Weezer, Radiohead, The White Stripes, and Muse. However, many alternative rock artists are cult acts that have recorded with independent labels and have received the majority of their exposure through college radio airplay and word-of-mouth.

Slide 3:

Indie Rock. Indie rock is a sub-genre of alternative rock that originated in the United Kingdom and the United States in the 1980s. Originally used to describe record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock. As grunge and punk revival bands in the US, and then Britpop bands in the UK, broke into the mainstream in the 1990s, it came to be used to identify those acts that retained an outsider and underground perspective. In the 2000s, as a result of changes in the music industry and the growing importance of the Internet, a number of indie rock acts began to enjoy commercial success, leading to questions about its meaningfulness as a term . Aside from music Indie is a term used to describe many things such as fashion. The term has greatly varied since its original source. Dressing ‘indie’ is stereotypically wearing ankle length chinos, messy retro shirts, and having a massive quiff. Indie can also be seen as quite a preppy look influenced by brands such as ‘Jack Wills’ and ‘ Topshop ’.
