About Mrs. Short:

About Mrs. Short This is my 19 th year teaching and my 7 th year in second grade. Went to Wayne State University and Oakland University: Master’s Degree in Reading and Language Arts.

Snack:

Snack Each day we will be taking a nutritious snack break. Each child will be responsible for bringing his/her own healthy snack and drink. Fruits, vegetables, crackers or pretzels make a great snack. Please, ABSOUTELY NO CHOCOLATE!!! Juice boxes and water bottles are fine, please no pop.

Allergies:

Allergies Please let me know as soon as possible if your child has any allergies or other medical condition that I should be aware of.

Rules:

Rules On the first day of school, the children along with myself will come up with our classroom rules. Every child will be expected to follow these rules. I use a colored card system for discipline. We also use incentive charts everyday along with Eagle Bucks.

Birthdays:

Birthdays Feel free to send in a birthday snack on or near your child’s birthday. If your child has a summer birthday, check with me and we can set up a day in May or June to celebrate. Please send in napkins with your treat!

Coats and Things:

Coats and Things PLEASE write your child’s name on ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you send in to school.

VOLUNTEERS:

VOLUNTEERS Please don’t be shy when it comes to helping out in the classroom. We would love to have your help. It doesn’t have to be every week, if you would like to help, just let me know and we can find something for you to do.

Sign Up Sheet:

Sign Up Sheet There is a sign up sheet in the back of the room. We need 2 room moms, if more than 2 sign up, I will draw names. We need volunteers to file our weekly papers. The file box will come home every Friday and can be returned on Monday, or you can come in and do it at school.

Homework:

Homework Your child will be bringing home their homework in their homework folder each day. Your child will have math homework Monday-Thursday, this is always due the next day. They will have a spelling sheet that will come home every Monday and will be due back by Friday. They will also need to read for 15-20 minutes each night. Homework assignments that are not turned in on time will be completed during recess that day.

Mystery Reader:

Mystery Reader We have a Mystery Reader come in on Friday’s to read to us. If you would like to be a Mystery Reader, please sign up in the back of the room. Mystery Readers come in on Friday’s @ 12:45. Please include your e-mail address so that I can send a reminder the Monday before your day.

Let’s Get Together If you need to contact me, please feel free to do any of the following. Stop by before or after class. Call me at school @ 439-6617. E-mail me @: michelle.short@fraserk12.org Write me a note and send it to school and I can write or call you back.

Discipline:

Discipline Color coded behavior chart Green: What a great day you had today! Congratulations, you receive a sticker on your incentive chart and an Eagle Buck. Blue: Received a warning, no sticker on incentive chart, they pay me an Eagle Buck. Yellow: Disruptive or challenging behavior, loss of privileges (recess, free time). No sticker on incentive chart, they pay me 2 Eagle Bucks. Pink: Defiant behavior, child did not improve throughout the day. Helping hands note sent home. In some cases parent will be called or child will be sent to the office. Loss of privileges, no sticker on incentive chart, they pay me 3 Eagle Bucks. In severe cases, the principal will be asked to intervene. If a pattern of yellow and pink cards is noted, a conference may be scheduled.

Good Behavior:

Good Behavior Good behavior will also be recognized. Acceptable awards include: “grabs” from the grab jar, stickers, extra recess, “good” notes home, handshakes, and high fives. Your cooperation is appreciated to make this system a success in our classroom.

Helping Hands Letter:

Helping Hands Letter A pink “helping hands” letter will be sent home if your child’s behavior card gets turned to pink. Except in the most severe cases, this will be sent home prior to a phone call to alert you of a problem. Please discuss this with your child and don’t hesitate to call if you have any questions or concerns.

Sunny D Labels:

Sunny D Labels We are collecting Sunny D labels this fall. If we collect 20 UPC labels, we will receive 20 free books for our classroom. Labels must be turned in by October 31 st . All shrink-wrapped packs and bottles 16 oz or larger are eligible. Cans and individual 12 oz or smaller bottles are NOT ELIGIBLE.
