Where we began The Advanced Life Support Group began life in 1990 and became a registered medical education charity in 1993. The organisation exists to "preserve life by providing training and education to the general public and in particular but not exclusively to doctors, nurses and other members of the medical profession, in life saving techniques “.

APLS Advanced Paediatric Life Support: 

APLS Advanced Paediatric Life Support Currently in its 5 th edition, APLS is taught in the UK, the Caribbean, mainland Europe, the Middle and Far East, Scandinavia and South Africa. Emergencies in children create anxiety, in the child, parent and medical and nursing staff. APLS raises the standard of paediatric life support and enables medical and nursing staff to approach paediatric emergencies with confidence. APLS makes a difference to children…. Day 1 Day 3 Day 7

PHPLS Pre-Hospital Paediatric Life Support: 

PHPLS Pre-Hospital Paediatric Life Support Paediatrics make up around 10% of pre-hospital emergencies, around 5% of these will need resuscitation. PHPLS enables first responders to deal with paediatric pre-hospital emergencies with increased confidence. PHPLS decreases risks to patients and first responders.

PaNSTaR : 

PaNSTaR Neonates and children are particularly vulnerable groups. The challenges posed by transport are substantial, as more services are centralised PaNSTaR provides a much needed structured approach for neonatal & paediatric transfers. With centres across the UK, PaNSTaR is delivered by experienced practitioners. Syllabus includes lectures, skills, workshops and trolley top simulations. MOET Managing Obstetric Emergencies & Trauma: 

MOET Managing Obstetric Emergencies & Trauma MOET combines online learning with an instructor led 2 day course. Held at centres across the UK, Europe, South America and Australia. MOET provides the knowledge and skills necessary to save the mother and fetus in life threatening circumstances.

POET Pre-Hospital Obstetric Emergencies & Trauma: 

POET Pre-Hospital Obstetric Emergencies & Trauma Pre-hospital obstetric incidents make up a significant proportion of the more costly litigation claims against UK ambulance services. POET courses currently held in Manchester and Middlesbrough, and delivered by experienced practitioners. POET increases confidence and decreases risk.

EMNCH Emergency Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health: 

EMNCH Emergency Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health This programme is run in collaboration with Maternal & Childhealth Advocacy International and in partnership with In-country Government and WHO. ALSG's expertise is in the course development, course management, audit and quality control areas of the programme. The programme is currently running in two countries, Pakistan and The Gambia. Helping resource poor countries sustainably and substantially transform and integrate the management of emergencies in mothers, newborns and children to reduce mortality and alleviate suffering by capacity building and empowering staff and civil society to effect systemic change from villages to hospitals.

MTS Manchester Triage System The importance of implementing the triage methodology in a standard format cannot be stressed enough. Attendance at the national training days will ensure each unit is given appropriate direction, added information on dissemination and advice on how to form co-operatives with other units and share staff training. MedicALS Acute Medical Emergencies: The Practical Approach : 

MedicALS Acute Medical Emergencies: The Practical Approach MedicALS is currently being held at the ALSG training centre in Manchester, Cork, Holland and Sweden. Aimed at medical staff who deal with acute medical emergencies. Now in its 2 nd edition, MedicALS combines online learning with a 2 day F2F instructor led course. Major Incidents : 

Major Incidents On average there are 3-4 major incidents in the UK each year (range 0-11), the effects can be devastating and far reaching for all involved, including first responders. MIMMS and HMIMMS are two internationally recognised courses teaching a systematic approach at the scene of major incidents and in the hospital setting. How prepared is your team?

Child Protection : 

Child Protection Child Protection: Recognition & Response CPRR A one day course for doctors in training mainly in paediatrics and accident & emergency, although doctors in training working in general practice and other specialty areas may find aspects of the course relevant. Child Protection in Practice CPIP A modular, on-line programme for specialty trainees in paediatrics (ST4-ST7) developed jointly by the RCPCH/NSPCC and ALSG. The aim of the course is to provide specialty trainees with the competencies required for their on-going child protection practice.
