WhatsInYourSandbox.orgSlide 4: Eight-year-old Kylie Xiong was battling Burkitt’s Lymphoma at Levine Children’s Hospital. WhatsInYourSandbox.orgSlide 5: Out of a profound desire to help, Mara and Neil Campolungo “adopted” the Xiong family in December 2010 . WhatsInYourSandbox.orgSlide 6: At the same time, Brian Dulin befriended Devon who was also receiving treatment at Levine. WhatsInYourSandbox.orgSlide 7: Mara and Brian decided to join forces. They coordinated the donation of: WhatsInYourSandbox.org • gas cards for families who needed them to drive their loved one to treatment • a washer and dryer for a family who desperately needed them • dinner for a young woman battling a brain tumor and her parents • tuxedos for a patient and his brother who were attending a formalSlide 8: During their time at Levine Children’s Hospital, Mara and Brian bonded with a social worker there. They asked what more they could do. Hold a prom for our teens and young adults. Her answer? WhatsInYourSandbox.orgSlide 9: WhatsInYourSandbox.org And so The Sandbox was born. 2) Help patients and their families during the most tumultuous times of their lives so they can focus on the most important factors: Believing and Healing! 1) Dig deep to pull the Charlotte region together, creating a stronger, more unified, forward-thinking community. Our goals?Slide 10: WhatsInYourSandbox.org In June of 2011, The Sandbox became a recognized and Authorized Partner of Levine Children’s Hospital…Slide 11: WhatsInYourSandbox.org We walk alongside families to give them support - both emotionally and financially - due to terminal disease and/or challenging circumstances.Slide 12: WhatsInYourSandbox.org We cannot do this without: all of our friends, family and colleagues in The Sandbox!Slide 13: About The Sandbox’s ‘An Evening of Stars’Slide 14: WhatsInYourSandbox.org An Evening of Stars is The Sandbox’s inaugural event. The plan is to make it an annual event. This year’s event will be held on Friday, September 23 at Founder’s Hall. 100 patients and their guests will attend for a total of 200 teens and young adults ages 13-21.Slide 15: WhatsInYourSandbox.org A King and Queen, as well as a Prince and Princess, will be crowned during the evening. Those crowned, selected by the staff of Levine Children’s Hospital, will also receive scholarships towards their college education (amount is driven by amount raised).
