The Fine Arts Radio International Awards Background … The Fine Arts Radio International Awards (FARIA) were inaugurated in 2000 by The Klassix Society/Friends of KXMS for the purpose of recognizing outstanding achievements in classical music education via the medium of radio. The Klassix Society initially developed two awards: the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Radio Producers Contest for the best entries in national and international competition. 88.7 KXMS: Public Radio Leadership in Music Education

88.7 KXMS: Public Radio Leadership in Music Education The Fine Arts Radio International Awards Why Sponsor Such Awards? It is a dream of many a university radio station to market programming nationally to the broader public radio community. Nevertheless, that sort of institutional prominence comes at a very high price: the financial commitment, along with requisite personnel and facilities, make national program production/distribution nearly impossible to mount or sustain. Even if a program series were to be picked up nationally, chances are slim that it would survive for any length of time. Our international radio awards have been extremely cost-effective in advancing the repute of Missouri Southern and 88.7 KXMS far and wide. We have sustained that radio industry visibility ever since 2000!

88.7 KXMS: Public Radio Leadership in Music Education The Lifetime Achievement Awards How it All Began … On March 3, 2000, KXMS and The Klassix Society/Friends of KXMS presented a lifetime achievement honor to Karl Haas, long-time producer and host of the internationally-syndicated “Adventures in Good Music.” Dr. Haas advanced the enjoyment and understanding of classical music through his unique daily radio programs for over forty years. It was subsequently decided that the Lifetime Achievement Award would become an annual event, bestowed on those who, like Dr. Haas, produce an outstanding radio program/series for the advancement of music education.
