They are medications used to treat many types of depression and disorders Manic Depression (Bi-Polar) Major Depression DisorderTop Three Medications: Top Three Medications Prozac Paxil ZoloftHow do they work? : How do they work? They help balance the chemicals in the brainProzac: Prozac Is the most popular and common medication of the 3 because it can be taken with other antidepressant to treat many different types of depression or disordersPaxil: Paxil Is the second most prescribed of the 3 and may be used to treat many types of anxiety disorders as wellZoloft: Zoloft Is the third most prescribed and is best suited for people with milder cases of depression and disorders.Common side effects: Common side effects All 3 of these medications have common side effects. If a patients complains of ANY of the following, they should get medical attention at once. Skin rash or hives Difficulty breathing Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throatCommon side effects II: Common side effects II Patients should call his/her doctor ASAP if they have any of these side effects Behavior changes Panic attacks Trouble sleeping Feeling hostile, aggressive, or suicidalSpecial notes/warnings: Special notes/warnings Certain other medications cannot be taken while on any of these 3 antidepressants Doctor should be made aware if patients is pregnant or breast feeding Drinking alcohol is prohibited while on these medicationsSpecial notes/warning continued: Special notes/warning continued These top 3 antidepressants will only help control depression, not cure it, and only if the patients follows the directions of our doctor and staff.Conclusion: Conclusion The intent of this presentation was for all staff to become more educated on the top medications used for treating depression.
