The Challenge: The pupils of 5 SC2 class have to: “Describe the properties and application of electromagnetic waves.” The pupils follow the steps outlined in the Big6 Skills to make their choices.

LESSON PLAN Induction set: (5 minutes) Teacher asks a pupil to switch on / off the TV Teacher asks a pupil how to switch on / off the LCD projector which is hanging on the class ceiling without touching the switch on the LCD. Teacher takes out the LCD remote control and shows it to the pupils. Remote controls are commonly found in every house. Teacher tells the pupils that the remote control uses infrared wave. LESSON PLAN Step 1: (Grid 1) Task Definition (10 minutes) Teacher gives the pupils the task ( questions / problems) . Step 2: (Grid 2) Information Seeking Strategies (5 minutes) Teacher divides the pupils into five groups. asks the group to appoint a group leader. Teacher explains to the pupils the activities. Teacher asks the pupils for examples of resources that can be used to get the information needed. 4. Each group has to find suitable resources to complete the task given.

LESSON PLAN Step 3: (Grid 3) Location and Access (10 minutes) The pupils identify the place and resources where they can seek the information. They should go to School Resource Centre (Library and Access Centre) or School Computer Lab to access the information and complete the task given. 3. They can use encyclopedias, reference books or information from websites. Step 4: (Grid 4) Use of Information (15 minutes) The pupils read / hear / view / touch the information obtained. The pupils jot note / print / scan the information.

LESSON PLAN Step 5: (Grid 5) Synthesis (25 minutes) They chose suitable information for the task. Each group shows their findings to the teacher. They complete the worksheets. They share the information with other groups. Step6: (Grid 6) Evaluation (10 minutes) Teacher asks the pupils about what they had learnt and guides them to make conclusions. The pupils express their reflection about the lesson the product (content and objective) the process (efficiency – time, sources, cooperation and feeling ) Teacher asks each group to prepare their presentation in MS Powerpoint (as homework). They have to present it on ... (a specified date).
