Phil friedman, managing director:

The Port Royal Group is headed up by Phil Friedman , who has 30-plus year’s hands-on professional experience in the marine industry, as a yacht designer, boatbuilder, and marine business and project manager. His most recent work includes: The planning and supervision of ship-fitting for a 44 meter high-performance composite military patrol craft The start-up planning and prototype construction management for a new line of 20 meter high performance catamaran motor yachts The design and supervision of fabrication and installation of ultra-light interior joinery and furniture for crew accommodations in two 21 meter high performance H overcraft patrol vessels Phil’s background also includes several years as President/CEO of Palmer Johnson Yachts, during which tenure he directed the development of more than $135 million in new yacht construction and major refit work, and the construction and delivery of a dozen luxury megayachts in the 30- to 60-meter range utilizing Critical Path Planning/Management techniques introduced by him to the company. Over the years, Phil has operated his own custom boatbuilding shops, and maintained an active yacht design, survey, and marine consulting practice. Several yachts have been built to his designs in various parts of the world, a number of which have made successful trans-oceanic passages. During his years as Senior Editor for Power & Motoryacht magazine , Phil tested and evaluated hundreds of yachts worldwide. As both a staff and freelance writer, he has published more than 600 articles on yacht design, construction, repair, and maintenance in a wide variety of marine publications. Beside directing the operations of the Port Royal Group, Phil continues to write and speak publicly. He has lectured on project management and boatyard contracts respectively at the last two Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show MIASF – Super Yacht Society InfoUSA seminars, and publishes a blog on yacht project planning and management at www.BoatbuildConsult.com .
