A Little Story To Finish Us Off :

A Little Story To Finish Us Off Rosita anxiously awoke just before dawn. She was told that this is when the souls of dead children come to visit. She was a bit frightened about seeing a ghost of a another kid. She pulled her blanket up with her as she sat up in bed. She looked out of her bedroom window to see if she would see something. It was very quiet. It was, as they say, dead quiet. Everyone was still asleep. She could barely see the orange tree in the back yard. It was very foggy and misty. Her mother's roses in the flower bed beneath her window were moist with dew. She was observing a spider web on one of the stems when she heard a scurring sound by the orange tree. She jumped at the unexpected sound. She slowly moved back away from her window while still looking in the direction of the orange tree. Rosita was trying to focus but it was so difficult to see anything in the fog. She thought she saw something but wasn't sure. Was that some kind of shadow by the tree? or Was that just a part of the tree trunk? She leaned forward and squinted trying to make out a figure. " Rosita!!!" Rosita let out a scream and covered herself with her blanket from head to toe. She could feel her heart in her throat now. " What are you doing up so early?", asked her grandfather. "What's wrong?" Rosita let out a sigh of relief. " I thought I heard something outside", she said. "That was probably a cat or one of the chickens", her abuelo reassured her. "Oh. I guess I'm just a bit scared about today being the day of the dead. Why do they have to come today?", Rosita asked while still looking out the window. "No, Rosita. Today is not a day to be afraid. Today is a joyous day in which we remember those who have gone to a better place. It's a day for us to celebrate and remember those special family members and the many memories they left behind. When I was a child..."
