Die koopkrag van geld is een van die belangrikste begrippe wanneer jy ’n beleggingsplan moet opstel. Alle beleggings moet daarop gemik wees om die koopkrag van jou geld te beskerm. Verdien ’n reële opbrengs ’n Reële opbrengs beteken ’n opbrengs wat inflasie na belasting oorskry. ’n Suksesvolle belegger probeer altyd ’n opbrengskoers verdien wat vinniger as die inflasiekoers groei, of minstens ’n goeie kans staan om die inflasiekoers te klop. Beleggers in sogenaamde tradisionele beleggings in banke en geldmarkrekeninge het die afgelope 20 jaar gemiddeld 5% per jaar van die koopkrag van hulle geld verloor. Voorbeeld Jan Belegger het geld in die bank wat teen 7% per jaar rente verdien, terwyl die inflasiekoers 5% is. Omdat Jan Belegger egter belasting op sy rente moet betaal (se maar 40%), word die reële opbrengskoers tot -0.8% verlaag. (7%-40%)=4.2%. Die inflasiekoers is egter 5%. Dus 4.2 – 5% = -0.8%. Voorbeeld Hoe lank sal dit duur voor pryse verdubbel as jy weet dat motorpryse na verwagting met 20% per jaar gaan toeneem? Om die antwoord te bereken, deel jy 72 deur 20. Die antwoord is 3,6.
