Slide5:

Founded in 1998 Well-known for its expertise in SOA (service oriented architecture), EAI (enterprise application integration), as well as transformation and modernization of business applications Specialized in development of Web-based applications integrated with legacy systems Supplier of professional services (consulting) Capacity to manage large and complex projects, as demonstrated by many success stories AXON Our mission is to help our clients modernize their enterprise legacy systems, so they can improve their productivity, optimize their business processes and trade electronically with their customers, suppliers and partners.

Slide6:

The NSO project (1) Context Following the decentralization of information throughout Norampac, each division operates its own copy of the corporate application for management of their sales and customer service. It is difficult and time consuming to manage customer information. Each division must extract customer information from its own application and forward it to a centralized department. Additional requirements due to the fact the company produces 'customized products'.

Slide7:

The NSO project (2) Objectives and Challenges Build a Web-based application providing a unified vue of customer and order information (orders, production, shipping, etc.) to its sales and customer service personnel, to make the best decisions, more easily and rapidly. Maximize the reuse of existing software (end result : 40% reuse) Integrate the applications without modification; the existing production functions must remain accessible via 5250 screens.

Slide8:

Approach and Business Solution The approach did not involved replacement of existing applications, processes and data, but rather reuse of these applications into a new SOA based solution. The solution is based on the AXON Plus Integration and Development platform which enabled AXON to : Perform a proof-of-concept within one week Consolidate the required information through an architecture designed for sharing this information between Norampac divisions Set-up an Intranet suitable for centralized information access The NSO project (3)

Slide9:

Results Iterative rollout of the new Web-based application over 3 years High level code quality: only 15 malfunctions over 33 iterations High performing configuration linking the 26 division’s applications Integration of IBM RPG technologies and replacement of Microsoft Excel-based applications Local systems running on divisions' AS/400 continue to coexist with the new centralized Web-based system High users’ satisfaction The NSO project (4)

Slide10:

Methodology Elaboration phase Iteration 1 Iteration 2 BENEFITS Quick results Ongoing update of the approach Quick and regular users’ feedbacks Avoids the « Big Bang » rollout All the steps are controlled Our methodology is a mix of Unified Process and Agile customized for each project

Slide11:

Success Factors Based on our experience, a project must consider the following factors to be successful Regular delivery of useful functions – avoid the « Big Bang » delayed approach Use proven, open and standard technologies Work with a supplier team experienced in similar projects Rapidly identify main risk factors to monitor and mitigate them on an ongoing basis Quickly integrate your team with your suppliers’ one Provide ongoing training during the project Carry out a successful proof of concept early on Involve users at each step of the project
