FINDINGS Importance of strengthening capacity for motivation of people at the community level through participatory methods Need for a paradigm shift from relief to risk management Mutual support at all levels Closing the gap between policy and implementation Resilient communities with "collective security" through structural and non-structural means CONCLUSION The Symposium became an opportunity to build consensus amongst various disaster management constituents, not only a value adding event to further CBDM but also a knowledge sharing opportunity. It is hoped that knowledge and spirit augmented through this symposium would be further carried to the WCDR. Proceedings of the Symposium is now available
