I was a well-mannered child and was quite chatty. I loved telling people stories and asked lots of questions! Even so, I was a handful at times! Iran is known for:: Iran is known for: Persian cats Caviar Hand-made carpets Tasty Kabobs Moving to Europe…: Moving to Europe… My Dad and I used to spend our Sundays at Parque del Retiro, where we’d enjoy rowing. My family and I moved to Spain when I was in elementary school. We lived in Madrid, the capital city. I spend most of my summers in Spain and visit old friends and favourite places.More on Spain…: More on Spain… Spain’s national dance is known as Flamenco. It’s incredibly passionate and energizing. Male and female dancers perform solo, as a duet, or in a group, dancing to the beat of the Classical guitar, while male and/or female gypsies sing songs of love, passion, hatred, and death. The roots of Flamenco are imbedded in many styles of music such as East Indian, Persian, and Arabic. Today, Flamenco performers and musicians can be seen internationally, including Vancouver! Moving to Canada: Moving to Canada I moved to Vancouver, Canada in grade 10. The first few years were not easy. It was a big change in the social and cultural scene. But gradually, it got better. After finishing high school, I attended University of British Columbia and double majored in Hispanic Literature and Art history. I had a wonderful time as an undergraduate. I learned a great deal and made wonderful friends. Now I am back in university and studying hard to become a knowledgeable librarian. It’s a lot of hard work, but well worth it. As a future librarian, reading never stops for me.: As a future librarian, reading never stops for me.JOY OF MUSICWhile studying or reading, I listen to Classical music. I prefer opera when cooking.: JOY OF MUSIC While studying or reading, I listen to Classical music. I prefer opera when cooking.Painting makes me feel good.: Painting makes me feel good. Since I was very young, I’ve loved painting. As a self-taught artist, I am constantly learning new skills and techniques. I mostly like to paint portraits and still-life images whenever I am inspired by something in my environment. I painted the image on the right a few years ago and never finished it, but I like its unfinished quality. I like to paint rustic scenes and the ordinary, capturing the essence of life and earth.: I like to paint rustic scenes and the ordinary, capturing the essence of life and earth.ANOTHER PASSION OF MINE: ANOTHER PASSION OF MINE My main passion in life is Oriental dance, also known in the West as Belly dance. It is over 20,000 years old and originated in Upper Egypt and gradually spread to North Africa, Arabian Peninsula, and Turkey. Oriental dance then found its way to the West in 1893 at the World’s Fair in Chicago. The Oriental dancer known as Little Egypt mesmerized her audience by her serpentine and earthly movements. Her strong hip shimmies, body undulations and rolls complemented the sound of the drum and the flute. Slide12: 4 years ago, I started to study and learn Oriental dance. I was fascinated to learn about the social and cultural significance of the dance and its mesmerizing effect on the body and the mind. Today, Oriental dancers perform all over the world in various venues and stages. IN THE KITCHEN: IN THE KITCHEN Cooking and sharing the food with my family and friends gives me great joy. I particularly enjoy baking cookies and cakes for my brother. Some of my specialties are: Pizza Risotto Falafels Chocolate chip cookies THE FUTUREWhere will I be? Who will I be? What will I do?: THE FUTURE Where will I be? Who will I be? What will I do? In order to achieve my goals and make my dreams come true, I must do well in my MLIS program in order to find my ideal job. I’d like to be a traveling librarian, spreading my knowledge as I go and leave a legacy behind. In 3 years, I see myself working as a children’s librarian. And by then, I hope to have my first children’s book published which I will illustrate myself. In addition, I’d like to continue to paint and perform as a dancer in different countries.
