He has written many poems and books especially for children.Slide3: He was born in a place called Wallsend on Tyne which is near Newcastle. Slide4: As a boy, Colin really hated school. He tried as hard as he could to get out of it. However, this all changed when he met one brilliant teacher…Slide5: This teacher introduced Colin to a local Youth Theatre which Colin immediately loved. It stirred up a creative streak in him!Slide6: Colin realised very soon that he wanted to entertain people. This led him into taking an art course in Newcastle after which he went to study more art in London.Slide7: Colin began to write and illustrate books while he was still a student in London. It wasn’t long before his books were published and soon became very popular with children.Slide8: “There’s an awful lot of weirdoes in our neighbourhood” “Who’s been sleeping in my porridge?” “Jolly Roger and the pirates of Abdul the Skinhead” With a lot of hard work, Colin wrote many story books. The titles of his books were often very funny. For example…Slide9: However, one of the most famous series of books that Colin is famous for is his series of books about Preston the Pig…Slide10: Preston’s Goal tells the tale of Preston the Pig being one step ahead of his arch rival, the wolf as he takes his football on a trip to the shops…Slide11: Suddenly is about Preston evading the wolf again on his journeys to and from school…Slide12: And Shh! Don’t tell Mr. Wolf is another tale of Preston the Pig sneaking away from his arch enemy!Slide13: Another thing that Colin McNaughton is famous for is his poetry. It has always been funny, often talking about subjects that sometimes your teacher mightn’t want you to talk about!Slide14: Here are just a few of his poems’ titles… I Once Saw A Fish Up A Tree The Third Worst Pome Wot I Ever Ritted Beware The Beastly Bogeyman Don't Stick That Marble Up Your Nose! The Crocodile's Brushing His TeethSlide15: We are going to take a look at just one of Colin McNaughton’s poems, however and see if we can copy his style of writing. It is called Mum is having a baby!Slide16: Mum is having a baby! Mum is having a baby! I'm shocked! I'm all at sea! What's she want another one for: WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH ME?!Slide17: No room to swing a cat! My hotel room was tiny. No room to swing a cat.
