Transition to molecular/quantum electronics is still remote and it will be different than the previous revolutions in computer technology:

Transition to molecular/quantum electronics is still remote and it will be different than the previous revolutions in computer technology As may be seen from suggested forecast, molecular/quantum electronics as the mainstream of computer technology is still distant in about two decades. Even then, the solid-state electronics will persist while accommodating evolving molecular electronics in hybrid computer systems until molecular/quantum systems become absolutely dominant. [November, 2004] It is not difficult to imagine a hypothetic “molecular analog” of solid-state element… But in general, it should be anticipated that molecular elements, when they will be created, would be able to process more complex functions than bit-by-bit data storage and processing. [1981] Molecular electronics – the research direction which “Ideal goal” is synthesis of molecules that would be able to conduct the elementary functions of the information transforming, alteration from solid-state systems to molecular systems functioning based on one-electron phonon-free transitions.
