slide 2:

Spring Time in West Wendover It’s April and that means spring time in West Wendover home of the Wendover Nugget Hotel and Casino and the Red Garter Hotel and Casino. We are of course talking about spring as in the season but did you know that Nevada is the state with the most hot springs in the United States And our neighbors over in Utah also have some hot springs worth bragging about. Hot springs are like naturally occurring hot tubs in the wild. They are caused by geothermally heated water coming up to the Earth’s surface from within its crust. They happen all over the world and many of them are safe for soaking but some can be so hot that they will scald you. If you want to take a break from all the winning you’ll be doing at the Wendover Nugget or the Red Garter here are four hot springs that make a nice little day trip from West Wendover.

slide 3:

Hot Springs in Nevada There are two hot springs located not too far from West Wendover in Nevada. Use caution if you want to visit these springs as they’re both in remote places. Once you get there it is well worth it but getting there might be difficult particularly if the weather has been wet.

slide 4:

Ruby Valley Hot Springs Use extreme caution when going to this set of hot springs located southwest of West Wendover not far from the Ruby Valley Wildlife Refuge. There is a main large pool equipped with a ladder that you can comfortably swim in as the temperature hovers around 100 F. It is quite deep so you can swim in it or stay near the edge and soak. As these hot springs are so remote you’re likely to have the place to yourself. But be warned that there is no cell service or any type of amenities nearby. You will also need a sturdy vehicle to get to these springs. They are located in a large marsh and the ground around the marsh can be spongy especially in wet weather so don’t drive too closely to the springs. The route to get to them is complicated but you can get driving directions to them from Elko Nevada on OutdoorProject.com registration required to get driving directions. Make sure you check the weather because the roads leading to the springs can become impassable if the weather has been wet. The trip going through Elko takes a little over 2.5 hours.

slide 5:

12 Mile Hot Springs Bishop Creek Hot Springs Another hot spring that isn’t all that easy to get to 12 Mile Hot Spring which is sometimes called Bishop Creek Hot Spring is located northeast of West Wendover near Wells Nevada. The trip to Wells is about an hour and then it’s another half-hour to the hot springs. Note that you will absolutely require a high-clearance vehicle to get to the springs and you might need to hike in for the last bit but that shouldn’t be more than a mile or so. The spring consists of a large shallow man-made pool. Unlike Ruby Valley this spring is much more likely to have people there but it shouldn’t be too crowded. The water temperature usually stays around 102 degrees but gets hotter the closer you go to the source. You can find driving directions from Wells on OutdoorProject.com.

slide 6:

Utah For those who want hot springs that are much easier to get to than the ones near West Wendover in Nevada the two nearest hot springs on the Utah side of the border offer visitors the luxury of an easy drive to get there.

slide 7:

Homestead Crater Easily the most luxurious of the four hot springs listed here Homestead Crater has its own resort meaning you have to book a time to go for a soak and it will cost you 16 to do so. It also has hours so you can’t just go whenever you like. Located in Midway Utah which is about a 2.5 hour drive east of West Wendover the Homestead Crater was formed over thousands of years. It’s hidden inside a 55-foot beehive shaped dome but the resort has ground level access to it. The hole at the top of the dome lets in sunlight and fresh air and the water stays around 90 F. The pool has decks and ladders to get in and out and you can even go snorkeling or scuba diving in it if you like. However as mentioned earlier you will need to make a reservation and pay for the privilege. For those who want hot springs that are much easier to get to than the ones near West Wendover in Nevada the two nearest hot springs on the Utah side of the border offer visitors the luxury of an easy drive to get there. Getting to Midway from West Wendover is simple by taking I-80. Once you are in Midway the resort and hot springs are located at 700 North Homestead Drive. slide 8:

Inlet Park Hot Springs Located at the north end of Lake Utah Inlet Park is about a two-hour-and-fifteen minute drive east of West Wendover. I-80 will take you most of the way there. These hot springs are free to use and are quite popular with the locals who have posted some general etiquette rules that you should always follow. The park they are in closes at 10pm and they are mud bottomed so you should prepare to get a bit dirty while there. The water is about 109 degrees and percolates up through the muddy bottom of the springs. You can find driving direction from Salt Lake City on UtahOutdoorActivities.com no registration required or you can find the hot springs on Google Maps and get directions from there. Why not celebrate spring with a trip to some hot springs Whether you are an adventurer and want to go to some remote springs to get away from everyone or you would rather call ahead and book a reservation to soak in a hot spring at a resort West Wendover has you covered for nearby options.
